test pipe decision

So I have a 06 mazdapeed 6 with CAI already installed. Ive been doing a little a research on getting a test pipe but I am really concerned about it. I heard that can cause smoking, boost leakage and the thing that most concerns me is possible engine and turbo damage. Can anyone please give me a little bit more incite about this issue?

Thanks

you aren't going to get boost leakage, maybe smoking, but if you switch to 5w40 oil that will solved the problem as it is a bit thicker and won't get by the turbo seals.

Boost leaking has nothing to do with the test pipe so dont worry about that. It wont hurt the engine or the turbo. All your doing is removing a secondary catalytic converter. If you use decent oil you shouldn't experience any extra smoke.

Its easy to install and cheap. If you dont like it . . . sell it.

Also just FYI, if you plan on getting the SU test pipe, get the $10 replacement catback gasket. You can use the stock one, but mine was all rusted so it was leaking.

I have a SU test pipe, no smoke issues. Like the sound, gives a bit better kick in the pants.

I used to have a CAI and test pipe combo, and same thing. No issues whatsoever.

There is a used SU test pipe for sale in the For Sale threads. Save yourself a few bucks and buy used. Its a metal pipe, so its no different than new.

The test pipe won't cause a smoking turbo, it's the turbo that causes a smoking turbo. If you put on a test pipe and see white smoke it means your turbo is leaking a little oil through the seals. If it's just a little bit of smoke you can do what bova suggested to solve that problem, but if you get a massive amount of white smoke then you may have one of the bad turbos. If the latter is the case, put your second cat on again and take it to your dealer so they can look into having the TSB for the smoking turbo done.
