Test drove one finaly....

We went and hopped in the first GT to hit Boise yesterday and alls I can say is.... (omg) I've been browsing this forum on/off for a few months and we're definitely sold on getting one in the spring time when we have a down payment rounded up. This one was exactly to the T what we want, Pearl White (shocked) and of course brown leather which I thought looked great. The microfiber panels were a nice touch too. I play with the seating arrangements and I have hard time seeing how any combo of people sizes wouldn't fit, shy of porkers and a full crew of BB players. The wife is pregnant and didn't wanna drive so I gotta own it for 1/2hr driving thru construction and then blasting up and around an onramp. I'm extremely impressed with its driver feedback, handling, and it seemed to have enough power. We're comeing from a V-6 Saturn sedan, and the Mazda 5 gets close to the same gas mileage of 25/35, so with a small but not too noticeable hit in power all else would be + thing. I did notice it seems a bit rougher than the Saturn on abrupt edges/concrete bumps but I'm blaming that on the tire series... cost for performance that I gladly ignore. I do have one question to current owners.... how well does it drive when fully loaded, whether it be 6 adults or 4 adults and a lotta gear. Does the back sag real easily? The visibility in this thing is just flat awesome too. When we got back in the Saturn the steering suddenly felt really heavy... lol Ooo I can't wait Mazda 5 GT = (first)

Doing you think the White clashes with the purple/brownish leahter? I'm more of a sporty type of person and i wanted to also get a Mada 5 during spring time after the winter season. I would be getting the same colour as you. But with sport fabric. As i said i'm sport than so called lucory items.

But then again, does it looks good with white? I test drove one with Galaxy Grey with leather, and the colour matching doesn't work together. But thw ride itself was wonderful.

well to me the leather was notably more comfy than the cloth, and I think it looked great with the white believe it or not. I do like the look of the sport cloth, but it just isn't comfy and its the same as the RAV4 we used to have so we know what to expect on long road trips... ehh. Butt warmers FTW too.

Only gripe I've got with the USDM GT 5 is that you can only get it in a 4AT transmission, no stick. But if you're gonna get an automatic anyways, then GT FTW indeed. I don't mind the leather color myself. Most I've had in my 5 so far has been 4 adults and yeah, it's not quite as zoom zoom, but it's by no means a dog. 99% of the time this'll be my wife and I plus X-amount of kids, but I digress.

I came from a long line of GM's myself and this is my first Japanese car, it's such a nice upgrade. Yeah, the suspension is very firm, but there's quality there. On the highway when hitting inperfections in the road I get a reassuring "pong" sound instead of a disconserting "bang" or "thud". The engine also feels quite happy to explore the redline, no feeling of harshness or struggle.

Anyways, welcome :)

i c....thanks for the info..and my apologies...Welcome~!

Doesn't matter which color with leather or cloth, the mazda5 looks great. Buy the one you like the best (your taste). I check with the dealer i deal with and i still can leather redone on my seats for 800.00 dollars, but for now i like the cloth ones. zoomzoom

yeah, this dealer was offering free leather upgrade with more plushness if I bought a 2006 Touring right NOW... I was like nah, gotta wait to put money down. The other thing that kinda bugged me, was the MSRP was $22000, but they added $2000 onto it for something called ADM?? Adjusted Domestic Market is all I'm guessin?

ADM, AMV (Adjusted Market Value here) and all those other pocket-book paddders are bulls***! Start your negotiations UP from published invoice prices.

I've not driven with 6 adults but have driven around with my wife and 4 kids. It is not the slug some (car testers) think it is and it doesn't have any discernable rear sag. That is huge to me as it is one of my major pet peeves with any vehicle I drive.

I'e had it loaded with more weight by carrying 3 people (+me) and the third seat area used to carry lots of my products. They weigh more than any combination of immediate familiy members and still no sag. Car seems to squat equally all the way around. Guess you could get it to sag if you loaded improperly. But that goes without saying...

Do you really need a downpayment? I got 100% financing from my local credit union. I like my cash. :) I can pay down the 4-year note faster later if I prefer. I plan on keeping this car for many years so I do not worry too much about being upside down in my note. Might be something to think about but to each his own. :D

We've had four adults and two kids in the 5, or two adults/two kids/tons of gear. The sag is pretty minimal. Drives a little slower, but still plenty of pep.
We have the 5-speed, though. I think with an automatic and the A/C on it'll be noticeably slower, but I'll leave those comments to the automatic owners.

I will say in previous cars I have noticed a performance hit with the A/C... not at all in the 5. I leave my ACC on all the time, therefore the A/C is on all the time (or just about). It still zooms around without raising a fuss.

thx for the replies guys, yeah I'm gonna def negoitate hard with em, and try to get some "extras" thrown in... we'll see. I'm hopin to be ordering one in May...

Just so you know, I ordered my 2007 Mazda5 in May 2006... took 4 months to be delivered. This wasn't out of the ordinary for that time period, but I have no clue what it's like now, or when you'll order. Just make sure to get a heads up of the current wait before you order one. This of course doesn't apply if you plan on buying one off the lot or dealer trade.

thats because it shuts off the a/c when you hit the gas hard, lol :)

lol, funny you should talk about a whitewater pearl / espresso (brown) leather GT 5 cause Im staring at one right now in my showroom.

where are you located? if they want to BS you on price, I could help you get invoice on the vehicle so you dont get ***** on ADM/AMV.

goodluck! the leather is definately ++plushy and comfortable!!

cool, gettin em on the east coast finally I see. I'm in Idaho, we have a strange market here. There's a big demand for a wide variety of vehicles and dealers don't get the allocation from the Manufact in accordance usually... so they get to play the SnD game with us... and its all the dealers here for the most part. The one I looked at they acted very motivated and willing to haggle so when I'm ready, if they won't haggle, I'll hit ya up n see.

In response to how the 5 is fully loaded:
Shortly after purchase (a week or two) we loaded up six adults for a 3.5 hour (each way) drive; Pretty much no cargo other than a few backpacks/shoulder bags. Given that the middle seats can be adjusted, the legroom was tolerable for everyone (4 women, 2 men...men in the very back row)--not something you'd want to put up with for 8+ hours, but it was okay for a trip to the amusement park.

On the return trip, I got the best gas mileage that I have had even to date with the 5. Six people and somehow I managed 35mpg!!! We had the A/C off for about half the return and the sunroof open, so that helped the mpg, but it could be that since I haven't seen it that good since then we may have had a tail wind.

We also took a 10 hour trip with 4 adults and FULL of cargo. The power was reduced but the gas milage was still better than empty vehicle with everyday stop and go driving.

In short, I love my Mazda5 and only wish now that I had worked harder to find the color I really liked. The red was my second choice, but I still like it.
