I tried the Redline Mt-90 with lucas mix and it was worse than stock. I grind gears all the time, and it has been a year since I tried it. I am going with the synchromesh next and I am praying it will get a lot better. I hope I have the same results you did. The Redline mix was not cool.

I will say this: Trans fluid is a matter of personal preference. There is no right or wrong answer.
 
Hey when I read this thread I just realized that it's probably time for me to change the tranny oil, well, let's not talk about which oil to use for me, but, how do I find this two plugs.
1.Can people confirm that the drain plug is on the passenger side? maybe a foot behind the engine oil plug?
2.Also the refill plug should be directly above but access from the top? No need to remove anything to get to right?
3. I only have a Rhino ramp, and it will tilt the angle of the car some, and from what I have read people seems to tell when enough oil is filled is when it starts to come out of the refill plug. So if the car is tilted, I better make sure I don't put in whole 3 qt right?

Check the shop manual for location, but if I remember from my change the plug is on the driver side...just look for the tranny and it's right at the bottom, 23mm. Once you get it out, the plug on the side is just up the side of the tranny toward the front of the car. I bought a funnel with a hose and threaded it down into the hole in the side of the tranny to fill. Fill until it pees out the side. Remember to replace the drain bolt first! (hand) It's not hard, and you should be able to do it without putting the car on ramps...I did, though you have to squeeze to reach the drain bolt. Use a breaker bar and you should be all set. The ramps would probably affect the fill and might cause a little overfill.
 
Good! I knew it's on the driver side since that's where the clutch is but some post in this thread stated is on the passenger side.
So maybe I don't need the ramp, just use a mirror to find a 23mm bolt maybe a little behind the driver side front wheel, and trace toward the front and find another 23mm bolt on the side of the tranny and loose it from the top, all the rest is easy with a funnel. Any more suggestion please say it!

you can jack up the car to drain the fluid, but you want your car to be level when you're refilling it so you don't over fill the thing. It will overflow out of the hole where you're refilling it when it's at the right amount.

Also, after you drain the old fluid and are ready to put the nut back in, make sure that the nut has a little washer on it (like the nut and washer from the oil pan). I forgot about that and when I was pouring the old fluid into the bottles for recycling, there was the little washer at the bottom of my catch pan. doh. So I had to redo the whole process to put the washer back on the nut.
 
Great! It seems doable for me, if I can't find the bolts I'll come back. :D

Also, can people suggest a good place to obtain Redline MT-90?
I know they might not be the best but for my first tranny oil change I just want less mess.

Did the same thing. The washer may stay up when you take the plug out, then drop down afterward. My washer is sitting in my cupholder right now. No leaks so far!

You can't miss the drain plug, and then just look for another plug the same size, but on the front of the transmission. I did it on ramps, and used a hand pump with a flexible hose. It screws on to the top of a 1 gallon oil jug- I had to transfer the redline mt90 into that first. The car shifts much better than it did with the 80W90 that I had put in earlier.
 
I am about to head out to harbor freight to pick up a 23mm socket so I can do this myself too.

I picked up 2 quarts of penzoil snycromesh and have to get some of the lucas oil stabilizer. I saw it cheaper then at the autozone with the snycromesh. Hope to get this done soon and have a whole new car (just ran seafoam, oil change, and new airfilter)

Seafoam ftw! You should pull and change your plugs too while you are at it...I recommend the NGK ZFR5Fs.
 
OK, Mazdaspeeder did you mean I should change the spark plug when it's time for me to change the tranny oil? I guess b/c they are both due at every 30k right?
Mine has 91k now and the previous owner said he always follow the maintenace guide...so should I change the plug too?

I was just assuming with the seafoam and the like that you were tuning up the car and plugs are always a good thing to do. If they were just changed you should be fine, but it probably wouldn't hurt to pull and check them. Plugs are so cheap and new ones can really smooth out a rough idle.
