Hey guys, any how-to's for a manual transmission swap for oil. i wanna put some red line mt90 75w-90 synthetic. how do i change it. the shifts are crap when its cold, would it fix the problem?

Take off the intake crap covering the transmission. 23mm socket is needed to remove the bolt for the filler. It is kind of facing down but is facing the front of the car. 23mm socket for the bolt on the bottom of the tranny. No, you cannot use channel locks or vise grips. Mazda put cooling fins around the bolt, requiring the 23mm socket. Refill with 3 quarts. I used a flexible filler to get the fluid in. Funnel with a clear poly hose at Advance Auto.

Repeat every 30,000 miles.

Hope this helps!

you also need to remove the drain plug.... :D

I did not use the verbage "drain plug", but if you read it again, It is in there. Trust me, I am not as high as you think I am. (stash)

think im gonna bring it to my trusted mechanic, lol sounds like a messy job. Which fluid to i get though?????? MT-90 by redline any good. i read around ,someone said theres the penzoil synchromesh thats better? but it says its designed for GM cars only????

It is less messy than changing your own oil. If you can remove 2 bolts, done. Plus, the flexi filler is like 4 bucks tops.

Any synthetic will work fine, it is pretty much what you prefer.

Alright so I purchased 2 quarts of Pennzoil Synchromesh (apparently only designed for some manual dodges and chryslers) and I am to mix this with Lucas Heavy-Duty Oil Stabilizer. Makes sense? Well I called pennzoil to make sure this Synchromesh stuff goes in our transmissions, and the guy said no. It is a 5w-30 oil, non synthetic and only for GM cars. Now I'm not sure if he's supposed to say that or its really gonna damage my tranny. Any ideas anyone? member BBSF2 says he's done it and has had it in his tranny for 2.5 --> 3 years now. Our manuals our transmissions take 75w-90 GL-4 gear oil. What should i do????lol WHO KNOWS this crap.

75w-90 is what to use in our cars according to the manual. 5w-30 is not mentioned. I am really not feeling like testing the waters over tranny fluid, but I would stick to what the manual states.

Besides, I had a 2000 GM vehicle. It sucked. So I will never put anything my car GM related, just bad luck.

yup, i have been usin it for a while now, and have had nothing but good things to say. i dunno if anyone else has heard my story, but i used to grind 3rd gear at all rpms no matter what, so i tried redline mt90, royal purple, and mobil 1, and none of them matched up to the penzoil and lucas mixture! once i put that in, i drove around for a couple of minutes goin through all the gears, and i have not had any problems since then! just my 2 cents!

I use BG Synchroshift II. It's pretty good. But the shifts are rough at times.

What exactly is the mixture you're talking about?

i use two quarts of penzoil syncromesh for gm vehicles and then top it off with lucas oil stabilizer. works like a charm every time. my friend that owns a dsm uses it, my other friends with a crx with a b16 uses it, and my other friend with a turbo klze ford probe uses it, and we all have had no problems since we changed are fluid!

Wow, cool! I will write that down. Thanks!

I first switched to BG when my 2nd gear began to grind all the time--hot or cold. BG took care of that, but on cold mornings it still won't shift sometimes.

Do you have that problem at all?

yes what is this mixture your talking about...inquiring minds want to know !!!

i have never had a problem where it wouldnt go into gear at all when it was cold out, it was a lil hard to put into gear, but that was only like for the first min or so, pretty much pullin outta my development. i also have the twm shifter, which doesnt help, lol!

I've heard from many that MT-90 by itself does not improve things much at all.

i tried mt 90, and it helped a lil, but nothing compared to the penzoil/lucas. i tried many of the fluids, and just couldnt win, lol! im always here to help!
