Is it hard or is it possible to sway a mazdaspeed engine and tranny to a protege engine? or can u put a t-25 turbo from the turbo mazdaspeed protege into another non turbo protege 1.8 liters? is it worthed?

it would be very hard for you to swap a 3rd gen 2.0 liter engine into your second gen. a jdm 2nd gen mazdaspeed engine might be an option you would want to persue

1.8L bp engine in the 2nd gen ES model may be feasible, since it is the same engine as in the miata. but manifolds and fitting might be tricky since the miata is RWD and the engine position to the transmission (and where the exhuast points to) can be a problem.

to my knowledge there are no turbo kits out for 1st/2nd gens :(

might want to see if you can go custom OR see if theres one out for an escort GT, it uses the BP-DE engine (1.8L DOHC) also.

the first gen protege had the BP-DE before the escort ;) and the 2nd gen ES has a variant of the bp IIRC or even a BP itself. there are 2 factory turbo'd BP motors, that that is found in the GTX and the one found in the GTR. the gtx has 180 hp, gtr 210. the gtr is very rare though. the miata bp will NOT fit.

Wassup guys.

I have the gtx engine in my 97. As far as I know, i'm the only one. Install was a b**** (from the wiring to just getting it to start , it starts off the crank not the distributor) **and this is with having Corksport do it all**. 97-98 you have to have the haltech. 95-96 you might be able to work with the gtx ecu.. but can't confirm (haltech is recommended)..

There are 2 other people who did the na 1.8 swap.

all in all, if you get the GTX swap done, all 96+ you will not pass SMOG test. they don't do the tail pipe sniff but rather hoooking up a unit to your OBD2 under the dash.

message me for more Q's.

^^^ i was just telling him what engines are there. didnt urs cost like 10k total? but they seemed to think that there are no engines available

Including the purchase, install and tuning of the HALTECH the engine swap initially cost around 7000$.

Right now its at the shop getting a BP head, new lifters, Corksport cams, powdercoated miata valve cover, Gseries tranny, ACT clutch, Mazdaspeed motormounts and more tuning for the dyno on the 20th. an extra 1500$ in parts alone

The cost keeps adding up.

I don't know what model car or year car he has ... he never frigin said .lol

anyhow 1st gen BP 2nd gen BP .. same motore.. diferent wire harness.

90-94 LX protege's has a BP ..
95-98 ES protege's has a BP ..

If you have a 2nd gen , you will be much better off getting a 2nd gen BP .. If you can get the harness with the motor. By all means do so. It will make your life that much easier.
However if you do get a motor with a partial harness, the 1.5L motor can be adapted to work with the 1.8L partial harness.

-----------------
If you own a 1st gen 90-94, and you want to swap from say a sohc motor to a dohc motor.
you can buy a 90-94 BP and then either use the LX BP wire harness and ecu .
OR
you can add two wires to your existing harness and then just get a BP ECU.

I did the BP swap on my 2nd gen ..
