suspension problem

tried to take some pics but didn't turn out with anything useful.

But Here's what I saw..
the passenger side has a cover protecting the fuel filler piping, the drivers side does not have anything to cover so it is just open and seems larger!!
Your probably not missing any parts!!

Thanks for the explanation that makes sense.

The TSB# is 0901804. Basically it's exactly as djltoronto describes (great illustrations by the way).
WHere did you find that tsb? The only one I find are the disabling of seatbelt noise and break squeel, but there is one about shocks. I looked on alldata's website

I don't have it digitally, but if you want to see a summary and to confirm the number then it's on the NHTSA site: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/tsb/tsbsearch.cfm

The NHTSA # is 10007445, and the TSB # is what I wrote above.
I took my Mazda 3 5 door to the dealer to get the recall corrected and asked them to fix the suspension problem while it was there. The service guy looked at me like I was crazy and told me he would look into it. When I returned to pick up the car He said that he and some other mazda employees took it for a ride and couldnt find a problem with any rubbing of any of the tires. I cant be the first to have this problem here in Greenville,SC.
