Subwoofer Selection

I had slammin James B. Lansing system back in the day. Back when i was a bass head. That ish would tickle your nose and make your vision blur. JBL still makes some quality stuff. And the company goes way back.

I wish there were more Free-air compatible sub woofers out there. If you wanna save space. Infinite baffle is the way to go.

One 10" JBL subwoofer, ported box and a 500 watt RMS Mono amplifier is all you really need in our hatches.

I bet you won't be disappointed.

I agree! you don't need much, I'd in fact like to downsize yet even smaller to a 8 or 10" in smaller box

Yes, 500 watts to a ten in a ported box will pound in a hatch back. I put 600 to a kicker 10 in a sealed box with an mtx amp, and it makes plenty of bass. More than i ever use really.

Hatchbacks are perfect for making stupid loud bass. Transfer Function, other wise known as "Cabin gain" is a phenomenon where notes below 70-90hz will have greater output than the rest of the frequencies. The smaller the vehicle the greater this effect is realized.

Droppin science on mawfuggahs!!!

I should update this by saying my little 8w3v3 has been replaced by a 10w3v3 High output box. Still kicks like crazy loud and deep.

I'm with you on that. I use a 10" in small sealed enclosure (the 6 is a little bigger of a car) and its nice and tight. Compliments the factory door speakers with better low frequency extension.

FYI: I run the signal right off the bose subwoofer. The sound is colored a little. The bose HU does its own thing with the sound so your not getting a real "flat" signal to the amp. The coloring of the low end gets worse when you push the volume. As the big sub in the trunk starts to push the little sub in the rear deck.

i got a full system in my car...run a boston g5 10" factory box from them .5 cu foot with the radiator. love how clean and full the sound is...wish i got a 12" tho.
