EDIT*subaru offering up to 8k off msrp + 0% financing RIGHT NOW *

*** THIS IS ONLY FOR THE STI ***

so for the first time since having the car i am seriously tempted
to trade her in. a new 2008 STI can be had for 29 +TTL right now.
the promotion started today @ 1pm

6-7k off msrp depending on dealer, and 0% for up to 63 mos.
my payments would go up 50 a month and i would add a year to my loan.

pros: faster, awd, plenty of aftermarket choices

cons: uglier than the ms3, 3-4mpg less per gallon, insurance

They are only doing this because the 2009 WRX is pretty much as fast as the 08 Sti, so who knows what the 09 Sti will be like....~350hp? But hell go for it, that sounds a good deal.

EDIT: 2009 Sti: 325whp, 350 lb/ft, 0-60 in 4.4 sec. = ITS MAD FAST!

where did you pull those #'s from? there were no changes

subaru's site has 305hp 290tq still for the 09 model....

AWD isn’t worth the price premium considering were I live and what I use my vehicle for; it would be overkill. The MS3 has just the right amount of balance, power, comfort, style and utility for me as a fun daily driver. Now if I competed in autocross or whatever I might be willing to dish out more money for AWD but I don’t so the MS3 stays. The new Cobalt SS & 09 WRX might be slightly better performers but from an overall perspective the MS3 still gets my vote.

The sti powerplant is not slated to change much at all going into 2010. He must be talking about the supposedly upcoming spec-c sti...

honestly...though i don't like recommending buying first year cars, this is a deal. i love the new STIs.

If they had this going for the 07's when I bought my Speed I would have done it in a heartbeat, but the new gen bodystyle looks like a ******* Kia. It s just beat nasty, and I couldn't sacrifice looks for slightly more speed and AWD (which I would never need).

awd, more power, better, proven, more robust platform for upgrading. a few bolt-on bits and you have an STI that is making a reliable, day-in day-out 325+ whp, to all 4 wheels. the ms3 is nice for what it is, that is why i have one, but the sti i feel is far superior. i mean come on, it's typically 12-15k more for a reason. the sti offers more, the styling is really the only thing that is subjective, of course you can argue that, but the performance- not a chance.

the headlamp design does indeed mirror a kia, but come on, the sti as a whole doesn't look like any kia i've ever seen hahaha...

that's a tough decision. Think of it this way....

The STI is extremely quick but only from a solid throttle/clutch dump. I've raced stock 08 STIs in my 07 MS3 and I pull from a 5-10mph roll (on a race track!)
Maybe it's because my car is FWD but I never clutch dump off the line. I mean, it would be pretty silly anyway as it spins non stop to about 3rd anyhow.

My car isn't stock however. That's a tough sell for me. You kinda said it yourself though. It's uglier and a bit less cost effective in vehicle cost, operation, and insurance. See if a dealer will let you take an extended test drive in one by yourself.
Personally, I think the performance between a slightly modded MS3 and stock STI is negligible once things are underway. I would have a hard time paying money for a car I didn't like the looks of, regardless of performance.

While I love the look of the MS3, the only thing about the STi's appearance that I take issue with are the clear tails. Red those out and I'd rock one.

i am going to go test drive one and see if i even like it, i emailed about 4 dealers near me, i probably won't do it since i'm on schedule to pay off my ms3 in 3yrs instead of the 5 i financed it for, every cent i get from working ot goes right into my car payment lol, i hate being in debt. (besides a mortgage)

This is probably a bait and switch move. "OHHHHH that was for the 08 in white... Here take this 08 in Black for 35k.." Or they have 1 in stock so they will try to get you to buy the 09 instead anyway.

My dealer left my car on their website for a good month after I bought it. They aren't a speed dealer so they like pulling in people looking for something like that

nah not a bait and switch, it's nation wide.
they're trying to clear out the 08 inventory, they've been sitting there over a year already right?

see links i posted. sherman oaks, CA dealer has 8 in stock for this price.

hahahaha, posting the same thing twice, or even three times, isn't helping your case. a person who buys an STI is not paying a premium for JUST awd. i stated what you are paying for aside from that- more refinement, a proven tuning platform that is less finicky and more powerful, in stock form AND when modded. there is no guessing and bandaids with the Subaru like there are with the MS3. the STI is not using parts on the high end of their peak ability like that in the MS3...it's not nearly as stretched thin.

people strive, for the most part on this forum, to eek some more power out of their car. so, let's look at that aspect. the STI can see 325whp very easily with very minimal modification, which translates to a peak chp of over 400hp due to the awd drivetrain loss. an ms3 can't do that, not anywhere near as reliably as the STI (especially for the same money at this deal), and even if it could, it'd never be able to get the power down without being a major PITA.

i know you are absolutely in love with your MS3. you've shown it over and over by being overly protective of your purchase on this forum. but, that doesn't mean for most people on this forum that if the price is right, that the STI isn't a better car overall. you have to look objectively here, and also understand that you didn't make this thread, the OP did and i'm giving info directly related to what he is looking for. he ALREADY has the ms3, s***, so do i, you don't have to sell anyone on that car.

do you understand that?
