SU TMIC Vs. ETS TMIC

ok guys talked to mark today from su......here is what he said

My prototype is going to be here this weekend!!!!! Finally!!! Once this test fitment is done, I can have the production started so it may be 3-4 more weeks at the most. We are almost there!!! J Spread the good news.

Been running the polished ETS 3.25 for over a year. Stock hoses with 21psi boost. Bought it from SU. Buy what you want...

that is for people who already have the su tmic and were looking to fix the problems there su tmic is causing them. the problem is that all of the aftermarket hoses dont work with the su tmic and this is one of the things they are fixing with this new prototype. very happy to hear about your ets lasting you this long tho

ty!!!!

please keep us updated. your the 1% i need to choose tmic over fmic. the fitment issues and tabs had me worried so i waited a long time for su to come thru on their new design. thanks and know many people are probably awaiting the same.(bump)

no fitment problems with my ets either. been runnin it for prolly six months or so with no problems or regrets. nice improvements in throttle response and acceleration too.

yeah let me add that i am the worst mechanic ever. just got my first set of tools ever when i installed the intake system 20k miles ago, and have no experience but the how-tos i read here. the ets install was easy. even for my short arms and stubby fingers. id say the rubber gromets were the hardest thing to reinstall. there was nothing confusing about it as soon as i found out the cold pipe rotates to a better working position i was golden. the SU intercooler i would like to hear the exact properties of why it outperforms the ETS otherwise, i havent heard a single person upset with their ets besides the fact it wasnt arriving for another month lol.

super shredder and mistersix i got a question? with the ets are you using after market hoses or are you using the stock hoses? because if i was using my stock hoses i dont have fitment issues. see su is trying to create a better angle in its rear inlet to better fit there aftermarket hoses. i never had a problem with my stock hoses. and with the reinforced tabs they have made for there intercooler it makes there intercooler that much better. also i will add that this intercooler isnt made by su..from what i have heard its made by cpe

Super Shredder i also read somewhere on here back in april when i was looking into buying a tmic that su was better than ets because it had zero pressure loss or something like that...idk what the exact term was used but something about the better welding job on the su tmic was better at holding boost...idk...could of just been people talking out there ass or something....either way i bought the su tmic for the better welding job from the pics and because you didnt have to pay extra for a polished look...the ets has a dull look to it

It is in SU's best interest to redesign the rear inlet for better fitment with aftermarket boost hoses for this platform because they also sell aftermarket boost hoses for this platform. If their intercooler couldn't properly use their boost hoses that's just not good business.

Since you're not sure what the exact wording was, I'm not going to make too much of a comment. I will say that in real-world applications, there will always be pressure loss. A better welding job will not hold boost better unless the welding job it is being compared to is inadequate. An inadequate weld would leave you with a hole in your intercooler and it wouldn't hold any boost. Sounds like someone was either regurgitating what SU told them, or they were trying to sell you on SU's intercooler.

oh i agree with you blendercloud 100% ..that the reason i have been talking to them every other week on the subject is cause i didnt spend almost $700 for tubes and a tmic for it not to fit 100%.

i am going to look and see where i read the info on ets vs su

no, no problems here with the stock hoses. in fact, you could argue that because the stock hoses are not as thick its easier to manipulate them.

when i installed mine the engine compart ment was still warm. not hot but warm. and it made it easy to squeeze the the tmic ends into the hoses.

as far as all that other jazz, i can only assume its hearsay so i'm with blendercloud. no comment. except that i also agree with blender on the pressure drop stuff and the weld quality.
i can add that i'm a trained welder and the welds on the ets are excellent. as it should be on anything that cost that much.

well after doing hours of research i have come to the conclusion that i was wrong about pressure loss in ets vs su due to the fact that i couldn't find anything on the subject in either speed 3 or 6 section to prove what i said...sorry. i know i read it somewhere tho but if i did the person who said it is prob an idiot.

when it comes to the welding job on ets vs su the only thing i found was coyfish saying he had seen both products first hand and commenting on su's tmic looking to have a better welding job over ets. which in my opinion doesn't really justify one being better than the other. in my own opinion looking at pics of the ets it has a smaller cleaner welding job vs su's tmic which is a much larger welding job.

other information i have found on both intercoolers is...

ets is 3.25" vs su which is 3.08" (3.08" is what i measured it to be)

ets has a dull finish similar to the stock tmic finish and su has a polished finish

looking at some old pictures people have posted.. i have seen that the su boost tube kit fits better on the ets vs su's ..and to back that up i couldnt find many people online complaining about fitment issues regarding the rear hot hose on ets when using an aftermarket hose

looking at past post i have found both ets and su tmic both have problem with there tabs breaking . now i dont know if ets fixed this problem but i do first hand that su's tmic has fixed this issue. only down side is that if su's tabs dont match up by more than a 1/4" its almost impossible to readjust the tab to get the bolt in.

when it comes to performance i have found everyone to be very happy with either tmic

in conclusion.... my opinion on the subject of ets vs su is this....ets is a safer buy right now for future buyers until su makes this better intercooler..when in fact su makes this better intercooler the only different will be better tabs and a shinier finish which, for some people, may justify a reason for spending $45 more dollars on su's product.

Yeah when I mentioned the superior welding job of the SU over the ETS I was speaking in terms of aesthetics. The SU is a "prettier" IC while the ETS looks a little rugged with a dull finish and less pleasing looking welds. All in all its pretty hard to mess up an intercooler lol. Shocking how on both IC's the rear hot pipe is angled the way it is. You would think after the 1st prototype was made they would have seen how kinked the rear hose is and fixed it. I mean the hose is kinked if you run the stock or aftermarket boost tubes. I just don't get it.

the rear hose is kinked? i must have missed that part of the discussion. maybe i should go look at mine and see if its kinked. never noticed it when i installed it.

i have to agree the rear hose will be kinked on su-tmic. i bought it together with the su-aftermaerket boost hoses. the front boost tubes fits perfect. but the rear one was not able to mount!!! it was completely kinked (both, stock tube and aftermarket) and you had to use hard force to get it anyhow into position!!! i was very angry about that and i am not satisfied with that hose i use now, to get that prob solved!

thats why i am looking forward to go with an ets. so is anybody out there who can say the rear hose will fit 100% like on stock tmic when you go with an ets (on all sizes...3", 3.25", 3.5")???!!!!

I use stock hoses on an ETS 3.5" and they fit just like the stock intercooler.

thank u for that post! and does the tmic hitś the hood? i read that the 3.5" will on ms6 on the pg-homepage.
