SU TMIC Installed.

well because of my dent and the horrible kink in my tube.. mark said he would send me a new intercooler with a return shipping label and i would then send out my old one to him..real simple and easy

I am reviving this thread after some recent incidents I encountered with the SU TMIC on my car.

First, the SU TMIC is NOT on my car anymore.

Second, the boost tubes I got from SU were sent back because they did not fit.

Third, the shroud made for the IC was not long enough on the front and it caused the two front corners of my air duct seal to be worn down to the metal which then started shaving out notches in the shroud. Mark said he would have a new one made for me.

Fourth, As I merged onto the freeway today, my car started cutting and then died. The two front tabs of the IC broke causing it to fall down on top of the engine. It dislodged the bottom tube in such a way that it blocked most of the opening. I had to wait for several hours for a friend to go to my house and bring me my stock IC so I could get back to my job!

I am so pissed right now, I did spend $600+ for a headache. I told Mark in an e-mail what happened, that I didn't want their IC on my car anymore so they wouldn't have to bother with making me a new shroud. I'm not sure if I want them to give me a ETS in its place, or if I just want my money back.

Sorry, had to rant, made my work day go for an extra 4 hours due to all this.

holy s*** that sucks...i plan on calling monday to see if they made a solution to there problem with the rear hose...again mark did tell me that they were redesigning there intercooler last i talked to them and said to call back mid may..sorry man thats one bad day...return it and get a cobb ap or something instead

Cad?

I've been waiting to pull the trigger on a TMIC. So I have been paying attention to you all's posts. To me when a simple preformed hose has issues, it's more than likely the new component alignment that is the issue.

Since the turbo hot pipe is a given, it then must be the new IC inlet that is off in relation to the pipe coming from the turbo.

I feel most of you guys have been trying to fix a bad design or manufacturing error with different hoses. Which is "NOT" your problem in the first place!

Seems to me like the manufacture needs to get the inlet pipe at the right height, angle, and distance out from the cooler to match the hose radius "THEY SELL" to the outlet pipe on the motor. When done all fitment issues will end.

Also any boost system with a kink in the flow path is just plain wrong at any level, when expecting a performance increase or increase of motor operational efficiency.

Kinked hoses are not the norm in the turbo industry.....

I agree. But even with slight kinking of the rear hose, the gains are very noticible. After driving around for a day without it on, I have no problem believing that it gave me a 10% increase in power. That said, the problems I had with it are unforgivable and not worth the gains.

I would have them swap it out for an ETS, but from what I've heard, some people have had issues with the rear hose kinking as well. I also know of an incident where one of the tabs broke. Is it really this hard to make a simple top mounted cooler for our cars? I'm still upset and still haven't heard back from Mark, but it is the weekend.

I still don't know exactly what I want done to amend this situation, advice is welcome though.

I think you should have them swap it out and send you a new one. I don't think I would want to be without mine now that I've had it. I like the power.
Have them make sure they inspect the whole thing, especially those brackets. I can't believe they snapped like that.
Or have then cut you a deal on a front mount, maybe?

I'm still waiting to see if they make a new tube for the rear, I'll call in a week or two to see.

Good luck to you, you sure deserve some remedy.

I just don't want them to send me another one that has fitment issues in the rear and may potentially break the tabs again. It wasn't like my engine was jumping all around in there, I have upgraded tranny and rear mounts.

No front mount for me, I prefer to keep it a sleeper, as no one around here knows what it is. Plus the advantage of a quick swap out for warranty visits.

Hopefully I will hear back from Mark today. I wonder if they should also replace my air duct seal for me, their shroud ground it down to the metal after all.

Were they because of bad welds?

No, the welds did not break, the tabs themselves did. Both of them broke in different places.

Still waiting to hear back from Mark, will give him a call at lunch break if I don't receive an answer by then.

Doh that bites man. I'm sure they can resolve the tab issues with some additional welding on the tabs. Rear pipe would require a new attachment point.

If you really like the unit, I'd say give it another try, as some ETS owners have complained about the rear hose fitment as well...it would suck to end up with a similar issue!

ok i got off the phone with marc a little while ago from su. he told me that they are working on a new rear tube and a new intercooler.
first off the new rear tube from what i understand is meant to fit on the stock intercooler and will be out later.
2nd the new intercooler is being made and is supposed to be ready to ship out in the first 2 weeks of june. this intercooler is made to work with su's "existing tubes"..so marc told me to keep my su tubes and he would be mailing me a new intercooler with a return address sticker so i can send back my old intercooler. also he had told me that there is a list you can be added to so that he would call people when the intercooler is ready to ship.

hope this helps a lot of people with the same issues as me!

Just got a reply back from Mark:

We are having a completely new unit made and I hope to have done by Mid June. I can put you on the list for it, and send it to you when it is complete. Included with the new TMIC would be a return label for the one on your car now. I have my remaining TMICs having the tabs re-enforced.

Regards,
Mark Scallan

So I will just wait as well and hope that the new design will fix both these issues. I thought about trying out the ETS, but they seem to be having their fair share of problems as well.

Be sure to let us know how it goes when it comes in! I'm still waiting on pulling the trigger on a new IC and would love to hear feedback on this 'improved' (read: not broken) SU TMIC :D

Thats what I'm going to do to. I'll try the new one when it's ready and try the SU Boost Tubes with it.
In the mean time, Mark gave me a good deal on a Catback, so that will keep me busy for awhile.
We will have to post up some pics when we get the new TMIC's.

So it's almost mid July and everyone was talking about mid June and there is no update. Did they finish the revised SU IC? Are the problems solved?

I called them last week because I was gonna guy the SU tmic. They don't have the new ones yet, they said something about a proto type. I think they said something about mid july???

my TMIC is issue free /:

Damn you and your TMIC that fits coyfish!

Mark told me he should have it by the 1st week of July (too late for that), or the 2nd week. I'm out of state on business, so I'll call them when I get back tomorrow. If they push he date again, I'll ask for a refund and get that nice black powder coated one ETS in the FS section.
