SU Mount = Cracked bushings@21k

Doubt it bro, the ********** motor mount is a pretty bad mount, you're the 3rd that i've heard that has had problems with it, pos. Get the TRZ or AWR
 
how did u know the bushing was cracked? inspection? or all of a sudden u had tons of wheel hop? do u drive really hard? lol -- sorry 4 the interrogation
 
i've tried alot of different mounts. i'm dead set on the idea that soft bushings and these cars don't go together, especially when you pile on the power. i've seen the soft 70 duro AWR mounts crack, the SU mounts crack and the CP-e mounts fail. CP-e should be releasing some improved models to retail soon. as much as people hate vibrations at idle, to me its not worth going to a soft mount on a car like this, especially if hard driving is routine.

I just installed the TRZ about 2 hours ago and it's great!

The vibes are not nearly as bad as others on here claim them to be!

The car now has a more agressive rumble in the low RPMS, wheel hop is pretty much gone and shifting is a tad bit better!

Go to the Protege Garage and get one from Ken today!

How did I know the bushings where cracked? I noticed the bushings where cracked when I was returning my car to stock for a dealership visit due to 4th gear grinding.

Lots of wheel hop? NO

Do I drive really hard? Sometimes yes.
 
I wonder if my 4th gear grinding issue was at least partially attributed to a weakened SU rear engine motor mount... Perhaps the mount is of poor design? I’m thinking about getting the CPE mount, heard pretty good things about it.
 
How can you attribute the trans grinding to an engine mount? I've had the SU mount for over a year with no issues. Give those guys a call and tell them your issue. They have harder bushings available.

I know they have harder bushings available but I don't want my teeth to rattle at idle and I doubt they're going to resist against cracking much better than the 62a bushings.

I'm not placing the blame %100 on the SU mount for my transmission going to s***. I just think that maybe it's not the best mount for this car and that there are mounts available of better design. I've also had my SU mount for about 1yr and 19k miles and it's worked pretty well. However, I've noticed during the last 2-3 months its performance benefit has diminished to some degree. It was still better than the stock mount as far as wheel hop but that's about it.

After switching back to the stock mount It became clearer to me that the SU mount wasnt all what it was cracked up to be. By the way, it was on correctly and all the bolts where tight so it wasnt an issue of improper install or anything.

In summary, based on my experience I would not recommend this mount but Ive never tired the other mounts out there so take this for what its worth.
 
That's pretty odd. I haven't any problem with mine yet, and I drive my car pretty hard. BTW, if your mount does have any problems, SU will replace it free of charge; I remember reading it in a discussion on them. Might as well get it replaced, even if you don't end up keeping it on, you could keep it as backup.

SU Motor Mount buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz raaaaaattttllleeee

I ran the SU engine mount for 2,000 miles. Made the car ride like a 72 vega. Buzzy, rattles galore. I don't do heavy launches so didn't have the wheel hop issue with the OEM. Will drive the car for a while so don't want to abuse it too much.

What I did do was inject polyurethane in the open areas on the OEM mount. Again no hard launches for me but it feels way more refined than the 72 vega. Shifting seems the same too but have not driven too much yet. Just switched to Royale Purple gear lube so hopefully that helps in the shift department too.

I would not recommend the SU motor mount. I didn't feel the rattles and vibrations across the full RPM range were worth any slight improvement in shifting.

It's for sale if anybody is interested - $50 plus shipping.
 
All of these reviews are relative, what one person may think are terrible vibes could be gentle to another....

I for one am going to say that for the past 4500 miles that I've the SU MM on it's the perfect combination of reducing wheel hop w/o increasing the vibrations too much. The vibrations get a little bed when idling with the A/C on, but thats it. Overall I am very satisfied with it.
 
Too bad I already have an SU MM. $50 is a steal!

Like mrjoshyman said above, I only notice the vibes when idling with the AC running and my perception of buzzy (or not) is based on my previous cars; all of which were heavily modified which means really stiff and noisy.
In comparison, my MS3 feels like a Town Car.

I couldn't launch the car for s*** before installing the MM.
I think a MM should be everybody's first mod.
