STX Build Thread

sigh...now if only they were more affordable....on the plus side all the current zo6 owners are going to be pissed next year when the tiptronic version of hte z06 finally comes out.....one of the few complaints i had about my 96 lt-4 was that I felt it was built more for straighline high speeds then it was for handling...dont get me wrong it def handled well...but after driving the new 06s I can tell you for a fact it was a vast overhaul for the handling side of things...hehe on that note does anyone else think that they stole the new zo6 rear end from the ferrari design shop?

and the front end (minus the lack of 'nostrils'), the head lights, the body lines...........

What car is that? Sounds awesome. That course looked real fun and fast too... I need me some autocrossing, I'm having withdrawls.

Victor Sias' Street Modified M3.

hehe meh...euro spec vettes have had those headlights for ages(well they were more side by side as opposed to drawn back)...but yea I'm very convinced the majority of the design credit should go to ferrari...

Hey Morris! How's it going?

Okay, updated the first post with a near total of everything spent so far. Would've been cheaper to stay in DS!

Britt

Add $343 to the total, just ordered new springs and some other stuff. I'll update it when they get here.

Hehe, when are you going to add $1400.00 for that quaife?

As soon as I find another daily driver. How come there aren't any MP3s for $7000 on the West Coast, or MSPs for $12,000?

I can't afford to have the Mazda down that long. I would prefer to have another trans the put the Quaife in then the swap would only be about 4-6 hours. But then of course it's time for a new clutch and pressure plate since I'm in there...

$1400 is a good deal, I'm assuming that is without the APR bolts?

I may have got a deal on a spare motor and trans, but it'll be a few months before it's out of the car.

you could always take the extra $1000 and come to east coast to buy my MSP [/shameless plug]

Britt,

I'll sell you my MSP for $10,000 and throw in an extra set of wheels and tires if you want to make the trip to the east coast. I find myself looking at used RX8s every day at lunch, so I'm not sure how long I can hold on to my MSP before I break.

So, any plans of prepping for DSP in 2008? Your more than half way there now. I may run DSP next year at the local events just because I don't want to run street tires anymore. I love the feel of r-compounds too much. I'll just run on Street tires at CenDiv and Nationals.

Very tempting offer...I am looking at an ITR right now.

No, no move to DSP. EP is my next class.

It's a lot of money but very well spent.

Hopefully, we'll see. fingers are crossed that I don't have anymore mechanical problemswith parts I've installed. I've had a bit of bad luck with some of them...

Oh, I suppose I can add $812.50 to the list for my MAM manifold (it's invisible to my competitors though.) JK.

All in all, I just hope I have a bit of fun this coming year. It's been a long road with a three year hiatus from racing to finish college, but finishing school has in itself provided me the opportunity to go at this full force. Life is a lot more fun when you don't have to worry about breaking stuff when you race, and then having to try to figure out how to come up with the money to fix it and dealing with all that stress.

BTW, datalogging shows that after the Nology wires, my car runs about 0.2 points leaner, so there would be a measurable hp increase with just the wires alone on the MSP. I will be richening it up because at WOT now I can hold 12.8 AFR which is a bit lean for my likes (no point in breaking it when you can prevent it!)

I will probably drop it down to about 11.6 or 11.8. From a lot of the reading I've been doing, that shouldn't change my peak torque very much. I am planning on renting the dyno for a day and making pulls all day to get it just right. The DSM AFC2 with the Super Map really does great as is, but my supporting mods are leaning it out a bit too much. Luckily it is an easy unit to make quick changes on. Even at Idle now I am running 17.2-17.8 AFR an trip an occasional Lean Idle CEL, so I may have to make a map that alters the idle range as well. First I'll play with my plug gaps, I think they are a little wide now, but I don't remember what I set them at, I think they are about 0.44. I'll try closing them up to 0.32 and seeing how much of a difference that makes.

I can't say enough great things about the TWM SS though! I love it. Although the performance gains for autocross are really moot, driving around on the street it really makes shifting a lot more enjoyable in a "I like a mechanical interaction with my car" type of way.

I am glad the SCCA Tour schedule is out already, I already have all those dates off, so now it's back to overtime so I can save money for travel expenses. Joy.

britt just let me know what I can do to help...making idle adjustments is pretty easy, you'll just have to change some of the settings in the drop down menu to have the afc "turn on" under idle conditions...by default we had it set to only become active at 1psi and above...

So my CEL I've been running for a week was another Lean Idle Code, but I realized that it was because of the Jpipe bolt that came out last week that the wanker cop burnt himself on. So I got under the car to put it back in, and noticed that there were actually two missing! No wonder my turbo was spooling up so loud! So one bolt back in, anyone know right off the top of thier heads what thread CS uses for thier S/J connection? I think it's a 10mm but I wasn't sure. i'll email Travis to see if he knows.

So all is well now, no CEL which is good since I hae to go to DEQ and smog the car this week. I'm gonna go through with the full CS exhaust witht he Vibrant cat in place but swap the axle back section with the stock one. I don't think it will pass with the CS on if they do the rolling dyno load test, but last year they didn't even do that, just did the OBD interface to scan for codes and passed me.

Technically, in Beaverton/Portland, I should be disqualified for replacing the cats but half of the people at the test stations have no idea what they are doing, so we'll see.

Worst that could happen is they fail me and charge me $2500 for the cat violation.

Britt

that sucks, you should find a hookup, theres one that my buddy has out here in So Cal, $120 bucks, you dont even need to bring the car, just the registration, lol

Ask Kansei, I know he was having issues with his CS pipes so I'm sure he knows the thread.
