Stuck in KUOW purgatory: Seattle Mazda drivers can't change the radio dial

Over the past couple of weeks some people who listen to KUOW in their Mazdas say their car radio is permanently stuck on 94.9. It’s only affecting KUOW, Mazdas from 2016, and we have no idea why.

Other than 2014 to 2017 models, does anyone know what the specific VIN range this affects?

It applies to all old style MIDs (8"?).
It seemed that KUOW sent out an image file w/o extension, which crashed the FM (RDS) on bootup. And it goes into an infinite loop of crash-reboot. The image file was written into the static memory of MID system. There is no solution from Mazda unless the MID is replaced.
Mazda is trying to find an alternate solution since new MID is on back order.
