strut mount

Ever since I installed my new struts a year ago, I've been hearing some clunking noise coming from the rear right. I've been ignoring it, but now wanna fix it. I didnt think it was the strut since I did the washer trick and i've had no problems with the left side. I removed the rear deck and folded down the seats and went for a drive. Ever time I went over a bump, I could see the strut shaft moving up and down with the washers clunking together. I double checked all the nuts and everthing is as tight as it will get. Anyone have a clue what is going on here? Is it possible for the strut mount to go bad?

it maybe bad, but what springs are you using? some aftermarket springs have the coils too close together and bang against each other!

I have tein stech springs. Its not the coils hitting each other. The sound is actually more like rattling a pocket full of change, which is coming from the large bowl shaped washer along with the two washers I placed in there.

are you sure it's not? when I first installed my b-specs, the coils hit each other and the strut returned faster than the springs could so it pushed it up past the crappy soft strut mounts... the noise didn't come from the strut mount but the springs themselves... after I installed the tein spring silencers, it fixed the problem... I also did the washer trick afterwards and used P5 strut mounts

Well I have tein spring silencers already installed. How different is the strut mount from a p5?

If i'm removing the strut to replace the mount, will I need to get an alignment done afterwards? I know I have a camber bolt in there

they're the same on both sides
just make sure you have those dots lined up to where they're supposed to be

proteges do NOT come with camber bolts... the strut mounts let you do the camber adjustment! if you're not using any aftermarket camber bolts, then you don't need any alignment though its a good idea to get one anyway

yea I have an aftermarket camber bolt the shop put in when they did the alignment. I only got new rears, P5 ones, which don't have dots? The front do and I have them correct

the rears don't have the dots... but they are directional per side... there's a certain way it must go on... look at how your original ones are and install them the same way... or RTM and look at specifically what the diagrams say and do it!

I got the P5 rear mounts installed but I still have clunking on the right side. I dont get it. Both sides are identical, but I have no probs with the left side. Going over bumps, the strut shaft moves up just enuf to create wiggle room for the washer, which then makes the noise. (bang)

did you install rubber o'rings on the struts before the strut mount went in?
the o'ring has to sit in the spot right under where the strut mount will go on

Is this o-ring attached to the strut mount or a separate part/peice? I looked in the manual but didnt see an o-ring. Is it in these pics? Does this o-ring sit between the strut mount and the car frame or between the strut mount and the metal dust boot cover? Also, the manual shows an adjust plate. What is this?

the o'ring is just something like the washer trick
you want that o'ring to sit between the strut mount and the bottom of the threads of the strut piston... you can also find rubber washers you can use to fit between the washers at the top before you put the nut on... hopefully that can cut down the noise
