does anyone know where i can get an affordable strut bar for a 99 mazda protege? i seen the oem somewhere for 99 dollars but cant remember where, but i will take anything that will work on the 99 model.

mazdastuff said that that strut bar is for the 2001-2003 models and wont fit a 99 model, but i dont see any different about the way the strut towers are made on the 99-2003 models . everything looks to be in the same place as on my 99 model.

it will fit. the only caveat is that the 1.6 liter engine intake manifold sits a little higher.

Did you try the ractive one on nopionline it is made just for your car and I was thinking of adding this to my 2001 since I am tired of waiting for my year to be sold. It should clear the hight of the hood for 2001, does anyone know. Probally will try anyway.

yeah i tried the 1 from nopi and had to send it back because on the passenger side strut tower, under the hood your cruise control mounts to the strut tower and the bar will not go without cutting the thing so bad i didnt think that it would do its job

It will fit - it just takes a little work, just like it did to get the Sport20 bar to fit on my 99. Take the cruise control and its bracket off and just modify the bracket so the bar will fit. Can you see in the pic where I hacksawed the bracket just below the red bar to the left and to the right of the red bar? Just make sure that when you reconnect the cruise module thingy that the rubber vacuum hose isn't pinched anywhere which would cause the cruise to not work right.

I'll try attaching it but so far it's not working, and I when I download it and then try to upload it to this site it doesn't work, so just go here and sign into this group (the original protege online community if I'm correct) and go under "files" click on the "99+" folder and the file is "s20bar.jpg".

Well if you dont want to cut anything I would say your only option is to order the stock strut bar with the cruise bracket if you dont want to hack anything. I am pretty sure all aftermarkets will be the same someone please post if otherwise. I have seen pics posted before and it doesnt look to hard. I will be using my air cut off tool when it comes in, I already knew I had to do this.
