Sorry to hear of the problems, no doubt Tony will be more than happy to help resolve them. I'm dying for pics!!

I'll get those up as soon as I can. I drove the car home last night and let me say one thing... the dampening from these Konis is simply amazing. I can't believe how much better the car feels over my old setup. The struts have a much shorter travel range over the stock struts which makes it seem like they would be bottoming out a lot, but it seems the precision valving helps keep everything a lot more controled so the struts don't go through too much travel before the chassis settles. The holes in the lower mounting bracket where the strut mounts to the spindle need to be drilled about 1/32nd" closer together. I had to do a little dremel action on all the struts to get the bolts to go through. I'll be pulling the rear camber plates off in a little bit and I'll try and get some pictures.

good to hear...when i put Konis on my corolla, i was shocked at how good the ride was, over both the stock bits and the MS suspension on my protege, even with well over twice the spring rates of either.

hey- did you ever get your engine tuned after it was all bolted together? i remember you saying you have some funky a/f ratios at higher rpm.

anyway, good luck at Nats...i'll be pulling hard for you in FSP. drive the crap out of that thing, and then let me know what you think 300 fewer pounds would mean.

My MPI tuner is still completely zeroed out. I haven't had the money to get it tuned. maybe soon. I'm cashing in a bunch of bonds to fund Topeka so we'll see if I have enough.

There is already a guy running an FSP Escort I believe. He is supposed to be extremely fast. I'll keep an eye on him.

The first picture is showing the lack of camber in the rear from installing the AWR rear plates unmodified. The next picture just shows the camber plate where I made the slots 1/2" longer and trimed off where it was hitting the strut tower. The third picture showes the top nut on the struts. I couldn't take much more off the camber plates before I would be unable to get a socket on the top nut. The last picture is the current rear camber...just shy of -1 degree. Looks like I'll have to get a set of lateral links to gain some more rear camber. I can't use bolts because my tire-strut clearence is only a few millimeters.

That's a name I haven't heard in a while. He's been running that car for quite some time and is always on top of things.

Update!!!

I ran the car on the new setup for the first time today at the NC championship 2-day event. Everything worked out great. The course was extrmemly busy and slow. The fastest part of the course was an 18 pace slalom if that tells you anything. I got lucky and nailed my rear swaybar setting and tire pressurs right off the bat. Since it was a very slow course with tons of transitions I ran the rear Konis on full stiff and the fronts somewhere in the middle. After two runs I turned the fronts down to full soft since it was very gritty and I wanted a little more front bite. That helped me knock 3/10's off my time, but I barely clipped a cone with the rear tire so it didn't count. Jinx Jordan is running his FSP Civic as well this weekend so I finally get to see how far off I am. He's running about 1 full second ahead of me on the 60 sec course after today, but I'm completely happy with that. I'm running dead even with Jinx's codriver so it's going to be a battle for second place. I'm still feeling out the suspension, but the car feels so much more controled and making adjustments to the suspension are extremely effective unlike my last setup that never felt any different no matter where you set the struts. It's only a matter of time before I get it all nailed down. The course for tomorrow is supposed to be a little more open and faster so I hope I can claw back alittle of that gap the Jinx pulled today. If I can get within 7/10ths of Jinx's times I'll be in good shape for Nationals. The lot we are running on this weekend is very sandy like what everyone says the new Topeka lot is.

good luck man... over the years this has been one of the main threads I follow- the progression from post 1-->400 shows in your driving.

Wow! Very impressive, especially considering Jinx should have trophied last year at Nats had it not been for cones on all 3 runs the first day. If you're closing in on him, then it might not be so crazy seeing you up on stage at the awards banquet.

Keep it up!

Van

Alright. I just got back from the second day of our championship. The course was much more open than on Saturday. It wasn't quite National's style open, but it was a step in the right direction. My Pro5 was spot on today. I was 1.1 seconds behind Jinx on Saturday and I only lost by 8/10ths off of him today. I was leading his codriver at the end of Saturday by 3/100ths and I stretched that out to a few tenths today. I finished 2nd in FSP, 1.9 seconds behind Jinx for the entire weekend. I believe he PAXed #1 for the entire event, but the final PAX hasn't been posted yet. I was 7th in PAX after Day #1, but with the course change I don't know if any of the higher HP cars bumped me down a little. The car feels amazing and I've only had 2 days to set the new suspension up.

dude, that rocks. Congrats! What tires do you have lined up for Nationals?

Gonna run 'em on new wheels or the Koseis?

I'm going to run them on the Kosei rims. I just don't have enough budget to get new rims at this point.

Results got posted for the event this weekend. I PAXed 8th place for the weekend and 20th RAW time out of 198 drivers. There were a handfull of past National champions and Nationals trophy winners on hand including GH Sharp, Rob Falkner, and James Fienberg...all of which I out PAXed...barely!!!(drive)

I can't wait for Topeka.

Hey got a link to the results? That is awesome work.

I kinda want to demod the Protege5 and run HS next season.

edit: Found it. Thanks.
