Stock tires lumpy when cold

Greetings folks,

Here goes and I'm a newbie! For the first 5 k (3miles)ish when the stock Dunlops are cold, there is a very pronounced thump like a flat spot. Tires warm up thump goes away. I understand the physics of warmer rubber, have checked the tire pressure often, do not experience any balance type vibrations at any speed. There is only 2600 k on the car and the dealer tells me that this is normal for such "high performance tires". Really? I think hmmmm...dealer doesn't want the warranty cost. What's the scoop?

The dealer is right. If you are in an MP3 with the Dunlop SP 9000s, they do that when cold. It's all good when they warm up though. Not a problem, just part of the experience.

Thanks a bunch for the info. The tires are on an MP5 and they are 5000 M's. does this make a difference? I'm not going to get into all that performance stuff...yet!

Ya that's normal. My tires does that too...nothing to worry about. It doesn't matter what kind of tires you have, they all do this when the car is left sitting for a long period of time in the cold.
