Stock rims + spacers??

I would love to buy a sick set of rims and coilovers but with a 1 year old and a wife that doesn't work $ is hard to come by. I don't mind the way the car looks stock except for the huge gap between the wheel and fender and the rims sit kinda far in the wheel wells...I was thinking about putting a set of lowering springs and wheel spacers to push my rims out, my question is,i What size spacer can I run? I was thinking a 10mm spacer giving me an offset of approx +42...will this work? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
