hey everyone, ive searched and failed (comp not that good)

my headunit the other day randomly died.. it was working fine then it died, flipped half open and stayed there.. I tried to reset it and at first it would close, then reopen 10 seconds later to the half open position where it has been for the past few days. Is this a fuse problem? or another fixable problem, or am i going to have to get it replaced? thanks in advance

one word for ya: WARRENTY! hopefully if you are past the warrenty milage (50,000) it will be replaced for free!! take it to your local dealer and they SHOULD take care of it! ive had 3 replaced under warrenty, bad ass kenwood deck!

My MSP is at the dealer right now! This will be the 4th P.O.S. radio that they have replaced - same thing every time, the face gets stuck half way to opening.

Happened to me several times. Tried taking out the fuse and putting it back in but that didn't work. Try resetting the ECU, that usually works for me.

Now my display has gone out and won't come back on. Having it replaced for the first time tomorrow.

It's the ribbon cable between the faceplate and the HU. After opening and closing hundreds or thousands of time, it breaks. You will have to get it replaced under warranty.

Just had the same thing happen to mine. Thanks to this thread, I won't even bother getting it fixed, I will just replace it for a unit that will be reliable in the future.

as a temporary fix, i would just pull the face off and then the thing would go back up and i'd just put it back in and it would work again until next time i turned off the car. then i went to walmart and bought a cheapy pioneer unit ($150) and it's amazing, SOUNDS way better too.

Well it looks like another stock kenwood headunit s*** the bed. Mine did the same thing last night. Not going to the dealer though. I'm sure that they would give me hell about all the aftermarket stereo s*** in my car.

I have had 2 MSP's 7 Kenwood H/U now I have replaced it with an Alpine. Sounds amazing. I hear things in songs that I never heard before.

Alpine has the lowest harmonic distortion out of most headunits, thus you will definitely hear things you weren't hearing in your other radios. Add an amp to your speakers and it'll be amazing. The 4.5v preouts on the Kenwood don't really seem to be doing much.

I ended up getting a Clarion DXZ755MC for a good deal (about $130 less than the average retail price). It has 4 volt preouts and there does not seem to be much difference there. Sound quality is a s*** load better than I had with the Kenwood POS. Now the only components left from the stock system are the door speakers, lol. I doubt I'll be adding any amps, I'm already running over 1400 watts RMS, lol.

I looked at a lot of Alpines, but I just could not step down to the 2.2 volt pre-outs. Every speaker in my car is run off of an amp, so having at least 3.5 volt preouts was pretty important to me. I do like how the new Alpines have integrated iPod interfaces included with the unit, but the Aux input on the Clarion works fine for me. I'm still not sure how I would like trying to navigate through the iPod on a small headunit screen.

Oh yeah and by the way Clarion makes the Audiophile DRZ9255. It has probably the lowest harmonic distortion of any source unit (.003%), but it also costs over $1000!

I have had the same problem with it getting stuck or having to reset it and all kinds of things finally it quit all together. I was out of warranty so I took it to a sound shop and it cost $180.00 to ship it out and fix it but it is guarenteed to never happen again and if it does it gets fixed for free. So far so good.
