STI/EVO Brake Conversion: Anyone looked into this?

Your definetly not going to get ms6 calipers, rotors and pads brand new for under 700. The calipers alone are 500 i was talkin to a vendor about this 2 nights ago
Um, I don't know where you're getting your prices but that sucks. You can get the front calipers from onlinemazdaparts for under $200/caliper ($190 to be exact). The whole kit would cost just around $700 depending on what type of rotors and brake pads you went with. Even so, might cost the same but the MS6 calipers and rotors will bolt right up with no problems whatsoever.

Also jon while they may have the ms6 calipers for 190 you need the brackets to go with them and they are 100 bucks so like i said from the beginning 500 for calipers alone

Ok so either $400 or $500 for the calipers and brackets (they didn't mention if it was $100 per bracket or not). Even so, that extra $200-300 will definitely get you some decent rotors and pads. So for $700 you can have a direct bolt-on BBK. Not $1700 like aftermarket kits and it will not require modification. I don't see what the problem is...

hmmm, and I thought I was the first to think of front EVO brake to modify in MSP.

I believe it's doable but like its mentioned it need to be modified + new rims to make room for the calipers.

On the other hand MS6 set up isn't bad but being that they aren't as thick as EVO's + caliper is still 1 piston , I'd go w/ EVO at this point.

Another option is Ksport BBK 13" = 1.3K $$ which is the cheapest BBK manufactured for MSP (so far)

I'm in need of new brakes so most likely will experiment with EVO's first.
I do worry about their calipers since you see a good # of them sold in ebay used. Are they defective ?? or ppl just getting BBK on EVO's ??
Thats another issue I have to resolve.

Keep em coming ppl, stuff like this will make MSP's more reliable :)

The only downsides I can think of for the MS6 breaks is that they still are only single piston and perhaps they're being designed for an AWD might have an advaerse effect on braking?

it shouldn't if your running the msp proportioning valve though, right?

lol, trying to think of the downsides to the speed6 front/rear brakes...its on my list....

You can't use the MS6 rear brakes the last time a checked. At least, not without severe modification. I'm still debating what I want to do. The cheapest route would be MS6 fronts and MSP rears and should provide a decent performance increase. Of course, for more (a lot) money I could just upgrade to a StopTech front BBK or something. The other option is to run a BBK meant for the MS6 - they have a Brembo kit :)

lol, I'm planning quite significant modification to the rear end, so we shall see how it goes =P

When I had my Probe, another popular car to do the brakes from was the 3000GT. Someone actually had a write up of doing it on ProbeTalk. I dunno how this compares to the EVO/STi/MS6 though... I know that the Probe guys always went to the MSP brakes for the cheapest because they were like a 1/2" bigger in the front and 1+ inches bigger in the rear.
