So I recently ordered a stewart warner boost gauge and received it today. Awesome right? Yeah until I open the box and the gauge is resting at -2 psi. I hook it up and go ripping (my car is at stock boost) and it spikes to 6 and pulls between 3 and 4 psi. What a bummer I have to ship it back and wait for a new one. The guy said "It must have been banged around in shipping." What do they do throw them off of airplanes to get them to the sorting facilities? It looks awesome though. Anyone else ever have a similar situation happen with a boost gauge?

What a bummer!

My old A/M gauge used to bounce around like crazy while it was in Vac. My new Defi one does it a little, but not near as bad.

where did you order it from?

i ordered mine from VicHubbard.com and the sales rep told me the -2psi is actually a manufacturer's design flaw. i had to wait an extra week to get the updated gauge with the fix. you may have been shipped an older version with the design flaw in it.

I got mine from 42draftdesigns.com and it was in perfect shape when it got here. It looks great too. I'm bought the white face and red LEDs, which one did you get?

Had the same problem... see pic:

I bought a new one since I bought the other one used and had no idea if it was still under warranty. The new one is ok though.

A friend bought a brand new autometer boost gauge and had the same issue... I guess they are quite easy to break! :-(

I bought the gauge from 42nd draft designs out of Maryland. They were very nice to me and shipping was incredibly fast. Ordered it early friday morning and it was here today at 10 am. They apologized for the inconvenience and told me to ship it back and they will send a new one asap. So I re hooked up my autometer and went for a rip. When I floor it in 2nd and 3rd it spikes to around 9 then settles between 5 and 5.5 then creeps up to between 6.5 and 7 psi from 5800 to redline. Does that seem normal. When it settles at 5 it seems like the right boost especially with my new FMIC, but why does it spike so much then have boost creep in the high revs. Bad wastegate, or just the way it is? Anyone else have similar boost readings that are still at stock boost?

nope spikes, mine peaks at 6psi and settles in around 5.5psi.... i have the turbohoses smic and hardpipes. my stewart warner gauge is hopefully accurate. i haven't tested any other boost gauges on my car.

Bought mine from there too. I chose the black face with a blue led. I wanted to contrast my stock gauges. It looked sweet in the dark. The gauge has -30 psi vacuum and 15 psi boost. It's exactly what I wanted since I couldn't afford the Defi gauge that looks like a black circle when the car is off.

Hmm? When I had the Stewart Warner hooked up it acted the exact same way as my autometer does just 2 to 3 psi lower of a reading. How are you hooked up? And are you using the boost line that came with the gauge.

nope, using the 42draftdesigns tubing kit ... the SW tubing sucks.

I'm also using that tubing kit. My car is just wierd I guess.

Mine is slightly off also. But when I compare it to my AFC boost pressure it is perfect.
Aaron's and Kyle's were also the same as mine. On all of them I replaced the hose with thicker vacuum hose.

Here is a close pic of it.

that looks right to me.... maybe it's the angle. mine sits really close to 0.... just slightly slightly under 0.

mine acted goofy for a little bit, but has been pretty consistant. I'm TOTALLY stock and mine will spike to 7 and settle to 5.5/6. It doesn't spike and dive like yours, but that's probably because of your mods...

Yeah that is normal. I was talking to a tech at Stewart Warner about it. It's called "tolerance." And he said the gauges usually have a half needle width or even whole needle width level of tolerance, but mine out of the box was 2 psi in the vacuum. So it was broken and I'm awaiting a new one.

So my boost should increase throughout the powerband? It goes from 5 all the way up to 7. That is fine with me if that is the case but I think the initial boost spike is sort of extreme. All the way to 9 psi?

I think 9 is a little high, but it probably is OK as long as your not doing it in 5th gear???
