stereo weight affecting car?

It's not just the weight though, the more battery power you use, the more load you put on your engine via the alternator, and it can actually be a fair share, maybe as much as 5-6 lbs-ft of torque gone througout the powerband depending on your setup.

Damn true, especialy when you have a boat anker of an alternator like me :D.

Apparently you can get a marginally better 1/4 mile time just by pulling a few fuses(radio, headlights ect), so I'd imagine that pulling down 30 - 40 amps out for your system will slow you down very noticably.

sure i will have some pics when it is finished ... box needs to be painted right now it is pale pink...

getting it painted is like pulling teeth cause my poor lil p5 has to fight for attention from my man who cant seem to pull himself away from his truck >>>:wtf:
his truck~~> dumb truck

Here is a good compromise for you. a pair of Infinity Kappa 2 ways in the front in rear in stock locations. One of the Infinity Basslink systems. That utilizes 1 10" woofer with 1 10" passive radiator. Built in amp of 200 watts rms. (added bonus is it is very small and compact) So that with an extra 4 ch (say 50x4) amp for the speaks and you have only added about 30-40 lbs total. I have this setup, it's not a comp setup, but believe me, it fills the car up very very well. Hits hard enough for me, and sounds terrific! Didn't notice any performance difference at all. That is what I wanted. From the research I did, if I kept the added weight under 40 or 50 lbs, it shouldn't be a noticeable performance difference..it was true! Keep in mind, if one goes crazy with Dynamat install that can add up in weight quick too. Best, Jusden

my car is mass heavy!! i have bout 200lbs in sound deading alone. ( including a lead floor) i have approx the same weight in the trunk as i do under the hood!!! as for handling it has improved the balance of my car. when i took out my old system and drove the car for two months with nothing i noticed a big time dif in acceleration, but the car's rear end didn't want to bite into the corners as i am used to with the system in. low slow and LOUD!!!!!!!!!!

I've been thinking about deadening the floor of my P5. This is the first 'small' car I've owned and the first that I could hear every piece of sand that hits the underside of the car.

I think 1 layer of dynamat and then another 1/2 of just would be the best under the carpet.
Also the roof seems to be a big cuase of noise too.
Those are my next places of attack.
The shamelessly flimsy and crappy rear deck is the real headach for the sedan owners. The best way to stop it form rattling is to get rid of it.

just build a removable system.....not that hard.....pics to come..... i have been building systems since i was 18(ok 6 yrs now) anyway it is not hard to build a syetem that you can pull out totally on race day, subs and amp that is!!(except for the dynamat) what do you want more? i love my bass!!!!! for reg driving but when this car is up to spec for racing(i wrapped my probr gt around a tree at 130) i will just pull it out with quick disconnects for all the wiring and locking pins for the amp and sub boxes............. dont mind my install now i am designing my trunk now and it will be ready in a few weeks(if you look at the link)

i dont know about you other msp guys, but I pulled out my factory msp sub. That whole deck and amp and speaker and bracketry, wasn't exactly light. I can't imagine the single 12, ported box and relatively small amp I'm replacing it with could weigh much more. ...

As long as the wires and terminals are protected from other objects in your trunk, mounting it to the back of the box isn't a problem...Just watch out for metal objects that could short it out.

damn, i finally got around to reading this thread:D i've got one of the slowest proteges, a 1.6L automatic, and i notice a helluva difference with the system in, or out;) course my current box weighs in at about 110 lbs, which was down from 150 lbs from my old one:p and that is for my single 10:eek: course that 10 adds 43 lbs itself:cool: not to mention about 80 sq ft of sound dampening, a run of 1/0 cable front to rear, two 4 guage cables front to rear, an MDF floor, and 2 amps, one of which is huge and puts out 2300 watts:p yeah, i've given up on going fast:D and hopefully tomorrow my new alternator will be done;)

lol, i meant i dont know how i feel about a truck being lowered, but i guess its coo as long as you don't ever go mudding lol
no mudding
its on air bags so it can be raised to be driven at factory height or lower
it is a hobby truck, really only comes out of the garage if we go to a car show or something
we just got it sponsored by boyd coddington so bigger rims soon :D

got wake? said:

2300watts for a single 10"??? that's a bit overkill unless you're talking max power or something. Are you sure you don't mean 2 x 300 watts?
