steering wheel

Last message from him was that he wanted to get rid of the air bag.

If you hit a parked car at 60 mph there would be very little left. Did you mean KMph? If you were going 60 before you hit the brakes and ended up hitting something at 15-25mph that is different.

no nothing happened to me, and i even had my 4 point harness mounted to the rear of the floor behind the drivers seat......... but yes that was not one of my better days.........

You know, I always thought my brake calipers were pretty ugly. I think I'll take them off.

i think the msp one is better...

The ones I have seen have looked pretty bad actually. The silver gets gross looking after a while, I don't know if the silver wears off or what it is but it ages.

The steering wheel I'd like to have is the Mazdaspeed Miata wheel. It's the exact same wheel as the p5 (maybe w/o cruise I don't remember) but with red stitching. Looks awesome.

Yeah...airbags are hardly ever tested past 35mph Barrier Equivalent Velocity (Thats hitting a solid wall at 35mph)....and that's one helluva crash. I wish I could show you guys some of those test videos I have at my work.

You said you hit a parked car at 60...yeah, thats crazy. Of course, I've studied even crazier incidents. Still, at least you were wearing a seatbelt. When you don't wear a seat belt, that's when things get really ugly. And considering your airbag didn't go off, you're real lucky.

I'm kinda curious...what angle did you hit it at? Was it dead-on or more of an offset?

And in regards to the airbag removal comments...I wouldn't encourage it.

Does anyone know if the Mazda6 or Mazda3 steering wheels will fit or not? I would like to have audio control on the steering wheel and I did change my radio to a pioneer which has a cord for factory steering wheel controls.

as i said, im not thinking of getting rid of the airbag. was simply curious if at somet pointed i wanted to replace the wheel, how difficult it would be.

thanks all for the input.

Yeah just three simple steps...but if you screw up, you could knock you head off...literaly!

If you have to ask how, you shouldn't be taking the airbag out yourself; you're not qualified.

Good luck

Echelon: I have to defer to my previous post. If you have to ask its not safe for you to remove it yourself. Were talking about handling explosive charges here, not just messing with the horn and cruise control clock-spring connection.

Be careful...

thanks for the input guys.
honestly wasnt thinking of doing it myself, but i wanted to know what was involved should i want to get it done.
