I was wondering who makes quality ones and where i can get it from.... and about how much it costs... ive heard of link but i dont have a clue where i can get it and how good it is...

I have a link system that I am using from my old turbo miata. But If I were to go with a new programmable system I would go with either a haltech or tecII they range in price from 1400-2500. But these sytems will yield you amazing power gains on a F/I application. Especially the tecII. If you plan on going N/A I would not even waste my time and money going with these sytems unless......you are going to spend about 5 grand on motor work, other wise the programmable route is usless. I used a link on my old miata before turbo when I had , intake, header and exhaust. I gained 6 hp after installing the link. Thats 1500 for 6hp, definatly not feasible. BUT if you go F/I you can gain as much as 30-40hp with a stand alone system. I plan on putting my car on the dyno next week and I have a very srtong feeling that I will get well over 200 whp at 8 psi...I am thinking along the lines of about 215whp.

Dont expect huge gains with the mods u listed and a standalone system. In order to get real power out of our engines u need to do one of 2 things.....F/I or spend a shitload on N/A and go all out blueprinting ect. And you still will not see the results that you will get from F/I.

The TEC II is really hard to hook up though right? The Haltech is a little easier I think. Expect to pay $500 or more to get the TEC installed.

Hello
First post
i am tom@kartboy. i own a aftermarket manufacturing shop that mainly deals with the Subaru line. Yesterday we purchased a Yellow MP5. we plan on manufacturing some parts for this chassis as it looks like a great base to work on.

Anyhow as for the stand alone, it can be a real PIA to get it all hooked up and working correctly.
I have a 1999 Subaru Impreza RS that is running about 12-14 pounds of boost on a stock motor. It is using a TEC-II from Vishnuperformance.com
you might know him as Shiv Pathak from SCC and his monster Miata.
he sells a PEMS (Paralell Engine Management System). it lets the Tec-II do what it does BEST. Fuel and Spark, while lettign the Stock ECU to do the mundane things like Fans, AIC (idle) ,AC...
install is pretty easy and there was only one wire that you needed to cut on the ECU and that was opional (Check Engine Light) tuning is fairly easy once you get a hang of it. and the "Tuning Wizard" is a big help.

check out www.vishnuperformance.com and see if Shiv can help.

Hello Tom,
You are right, if there is one man that knows his s***....its vishnu. He is well known in Miata circles and I have heard with the Suby guys too. He is probably the best tuner in the country of standalone systems and tec systems.

As for the haltech being easier to install...actually the tecII is way easier to install and tune. The only thing that will be a little difficult may be to fabricate a crank trigger, unless Shiv can come out and make a system particulary for our cars, so that everything is included! But the price to play is a steep one $2500:mad: :(

Shiv is the man......can u pleease make a system for our cars:)

Subywan got the chance to hang out with Shiv a few months back at a race event a Laguna Seca. He said he's a really down to earth guy. Mike "Subywan" also had the TECII which he had planned to install on the WRX, but he opted for Shiv Uni-Chip package instead, which for his needs will work fine. Actually, one our friends back in Michigan, Dan of Godspeed, just set the peak WHP record on pumped gas in a WRX. 311 all-wheel drive whp, yes that's to the wheels. Which means he's pretty close to 400 @ the crank and if you frequent the I-Club at all those kind of numbers (assuming you can nail the launch right) are good for a low 12 second pass. Cool thing is that he has virtually the identical setup that Subywan has, just a little different turbo. Dan has the PE1818, Mike has the PE1820. Not that anyone on here would know what I'm talking about. Oh, Dan @ Godspeed has the WRX Wagon too. I'd hate to get burned by a Wagon........Ok I'll shaddup ;)

APEXistud-I know what your talkin about. I've met Dan at a install day, didn't get to talk to him much, but he know's his stuff. I hope to get his up-pipe soon.
Tom, how's it goin. You prolly don't remember me but you've answered some of my questions on i-club. Anyway, what turbo are you using? I'm looking to upgrade mine.

spoolin:

Are you talking the Protege?? I thought the FS-DE 2.0-liter motor already had a crank trigger. I thought that's how the stock system is running anyway because it is already a direct fire ignition. I also heard that there is a cam postion sensor to help with timing and such...

Or are you refering to something else???

StuttersC-what spoolin is talking about is that the TEC-II comes with upgraded sensors, including the crank trigger. It allow's the TEC-II to be more accurate. Example: say (just throwing the numbers around) the stock trigger has 4 points. This means the computer has to estimate where the crank actually is between the points. Instead the TEC-II come's with say an 8 point trigger. The computer then has to guess half the time. That's the jist of it.

Thanks for the info, I know what the TEC II comes with, I've been looking at that as an option if/when I move up the power ladder.

I just figured that if there is already a crank sensor, it would make it slightly easier to mount a different one.

And I wouldn't necessarily call GM sensors an "upgrade"...J/K:D

Funny thing is that Dan asked Mike "Subywan" if he could borrow his Vishnu Up Pipe shortly after he recieved it while we were living in Michigan. A couple of weeks later, Godspeed came out with their own up pipe. Not that anything sneaky was going on of course....;) But yeah, Dan is a cool guy. He used to have a Celica All-Trac and a JDM Front end converted 97 ITR.
