Okay, so the server wouldn't let me add any more pics last night, so I decided to wait til this morning.....

DAY FOUR:

- Got my interior and DGM lip back from painter! :)
- Cut front bumper to allow the RX-7 clear side markers to fit better
- drew a dragon + flying 'M' on my driver's side headlight (this didn't turn out as perfect as I had hoped 'cause I was tracing a picture with an exacto knife. About half way through, even with latex gloves, the ink from the picture started to smear, so I had to start free handing most of the pic. But overall, I think it turned out great and it's something only my car has (thumb) )

DAY FIVE:

- Got the BC2 rear bumper and side skirts out of storage and put on the car
- Dynomatted all the door panels and hatch (forgot to take pics)
- Reinstalled headlights (When I was putting it back together, I just used new sealant and pushed it together. However, the old sealant prevented it from fitting together, and as a result, the headlight didn't follow the lines of the fender and front bumper. So I basically reheated in the oven, and pushed it together more. The pic is before I reheated it, hence the horrible fitment with the fender)

DAY SEVEN:

- Got the painted DGM CF hood out of storage and put in on the car
- Installed the newly painted DGM lip (I know the colors don't really match in the pic. The city was installing a water/sewage pipe on our street, which caked everything in dirt and dust, so the car really really needs to be cleaned now)

AND things to come....

- Pyle 7" in-dash monitor
- Stubby antenna
- Black out the front Mazda emblem
- Touch up paint here and there

Thanks for looking! :)

nice! Your front end looks amazing! I want a classic red P5 so much, it just looks awesome. With clear or blacked out headlights it just looks so good.

I wish someone would make a half-AutoEXE lip. I don't want the bottom section with the holes, just the top strip. I guess I'll just have to go with the MSP lip and lose my fogs though.

you opened the light an you did not blacked out the headlights...but it still looks good

How did you relocate the radio there? How is it supported? Also where did you go to have the interior pieces painted? An auto shop that does body and paint work?

Long Reply!!!

Hey thanks for the compliments and questions! Most of us know how wonderful this car is, and I wanted to show the versatility that is possible with a little planning. For instance, most laugh that it's an automatic, but I find it relaxing in rush hour traffic and campus area driving. It's also my daily driver from home to work and from college to hometown, but at the same time it's worthy of entering car shows. In the summer, put the toys on, and in the winter, take'em off and slap on the stockers and some winter tires! Even when it was stock, people kept turning their heads! And it's also great to have a friendly forum like this one, I found most of my "how-to's" and information here first before I tried most of this stuff. Hell, when I bought the car, I wouldn't even know where to begin to change the oil if you asked, sad but true lol But I was able to do all this stuff myself, aside from my little brother helping me to guide the bumpers back on ;) Gotta love the P5!! :)

Now to the questions...

daedalus - Around Thanksgiving time, I only remove the lip, BC2 kit, CF hood, and rims for storage. Ohio can get some pretty nasty winters, and I've noticed plenty of stupid drivers around campus. I figure I lessen the chance of things getting ruined by salt or careless drivers by storing them. The rest of that stuff stays in the car.

the vw guy - haha It felt very much like a job and less of a break. I was on paid vacation from FedEx, so I kept telling myself I was being paid to work on my car lol

Javo - There it is!!! I was wondering how long it would take for someone to mention blacking out the headlights lol I'm 50/50 on blacking things out. I like things to be uniform I guess. What I mean is that I like the car now with chrome headlights, chrome fog lights, and clear sides. But from pics I've seen, blacking out the headlights and side markers looks sweet, but I don't like blacked out fogs...and I didn't like the mix of blacked out headlights with chrome fogs. So I just decided to keep the chrome look. This actually kind of disappoints me because the red on black interior and painted cf hood (with soon to be black Mazda emblem) would look awesome with blacked out lights. I thought about removing the fogs too since that's what really bugs me, but I like them too much....damn those appealing chrome foglights! lol

SIBalla23 - This is actually kind of hard to explain without a picture, and I don't have one before I started cutting. Basically, if you look at pictures 4 and 11, there is a metal brace that supports the dash. You can't really see it without removing your center console. I used a Dremel and many cutting blades to "make" a single-din that the stereo could slide back into. The little plastic pocket in the center console behind the cupholders had to be cut out too. After plenty of cutting and grinding, I used electrical tape to prevent any contact between the stereo and metal brace. Not sure if this was entirely needed, but I didn't want any weird grounding distortion in the music. My car has the fliplid cupholders and I've removed that fliplid for the time being. If you're interested in doing this, just remove your center console, take a look at that metal brace, take plenty of measurements of your stereo and area you need to cut, and learn to love your cutting tool (thumb) As far as painting goes, my friend's brother-in-law did the painting. I sanded all the pieces down with the Dremel, and then went back over them with 380 or 400 grit sandpaper to smooth it out. Charged me a little more than the cost of paint and a case of beer, sweet discount ;) Interesting note about the center trim piece with the fake CF sides...it's actually entirely fake CF and the silver is painted over that! The other interior pieces are an ugly brown (boom07) BTW, I used red vinyl for the passenger airbag cover, the piece above the glove box, the area around the gauges, the oem jack cover, the piece around the hand-brake, and the little piece with the A/V jacks.

ANYWAYS...thanks again everybody for looking. Once I finish mounting the monitor and clean up the car, I'll post some more pics. Any more questions, just ask...latas!

~ Shawn
