Hey guyz i have the sportronic shifter, aniwayz I'm just wondering has anyone noticed the difference in speed when using the manual mode comparing to automatic? Somehow I felt it's a bit more responsive...any opinions?

Im sure its not faster than the regular auto mode, I've found that it just kinda helps in the twisties to keep the rpm range at an optimal level.

hmm...yeah it does make sense...thanx man

i like to shift whenever i want.. easier to do than an auto. =P... my car hurts on on certain on ramps.. =(

I can shift whenever I want too and I have an auto. The sportronic is definetly better in the canyons cuz you can keep it in the rpm ranges you want instead the auto to go from 4th to 2nd.

happened to me once. scare the s*** outa me. it shifted (cant remember up or down) and suddenly the car pulled inside (towards a wall) while going onto a freeway.

i was driving regular at the time. i think i was understeering a little cant remember exactly, i remember that i wasnt going that fast.

well just to let you know it was at night and i was coming home from dinner in china town. there was a little water on the road because of a sprinkler that always gets alot of water on the road. stock dunlops too. it could of been a combination of both the rear coming out and the front sliding in, or just the rear, because i remember suddenly i faced in a little more than i should.

*edit* almost everyone who posted here is from Cali... except for the thread starter is not listed and the Texan

yes, my uncle's cant remember which one at the time, either golden city (i think thats what its called) or the one across the street. both my uncle's

Also keep in mind that by being able to control the shifts, you can overcome the rediculously low factory shift points in "auto" mode and make better use of the powerband. So it may seem faster to an extent.

I just don't like how it still makes you shift when it wants to be shifted to a certain degree. It'll only shift when it's ready sometimes & you get stuck in hi rpms because it didn't shift when you flicked the stick. It's definitely better than auto mode but still not nearly as good as manual where it's in the gear you put it in when you put it there & you can count on it being there where you are more one with the vehicle. The sportronic doesn't allow for full freedom to rip like the manual would. I have manual in truck & other cars that I've owned over the past 30 yrs & I prefer it for all crazy action driving but it's also nice to have a bit of both too. My truck is for all that craziness though so I get my share of both worlds.

haha, i LIVE in chinatown~! boo ya!

i almost ALWAYS use the steptronic shift. is it bad if i let go of the gas slightly before i shift each time? i tend to down shift quite a bit too... won't kill my tranny will it?

That's kinda how you have to to make sure tranny will keep up with your shifting & I use downshifting some just not usually @ hi rpms. I've had no problems other than it just not synced up with me totally on quick shifts. I also added a trans oil cooler & changed the fluid out to AMSOIL synthetic atf just to protect it as much as possible. It really cools the fluid down good. The return line taking fluid back to tranny never gets much past luke warm. You can hold the line without it being hot even fresh off the freeway. Hi temp is the worst enemy of autos as far as longevity. LA- coolest ass place to visit, got friends in Huntington. We always cover from the border up past ventura & hollyweird & places in town & mammoth & wrightwood every time I come out. Never enough time to see enough no matter how long I get to stay.

do you guys have a delay in between shifts? i drive an ml320 while my msp is being worked on and it has sportcraponic too, but there's like a delay in between shifts, like the car doesnt know i shifted for like a second or 2 then it realizes i shifted and then it switches gears.
