I also have a Sport AT P5 and got a question for you all. When I'm driving along I sometimes put it on manual mode and the 4th gear iluminates then I shift it down to second gear and floor it. The car pulls hard a little and I up shift to 3rd and 4th.
Doing this am I damaging my auto tranny or anything at all? Thanks In advance.
Remember...some of these clowns have an 02 where there was no sport shifter.
they have no idea what the **** they are saying.
pathetic really.
You really didn't have a question but more of a statement.
But...for the other postings...
taking it out of auto to manual (4th) will take more gas. In full auto it goes to OD when cruising around. Putting it into 4th manually takes it out of OD permanently.
IMO...you have to know how to drive an auto about as much as a stick. There are shift points that the auto will make according to your driving. I can go from OD to 2nd at will just by pressing the throttle a certian amount. I can also hold the gas under acceleration to get it to shift where I want. Wether it be at 3k rpms or 6k rpms. You have to know the cars shift points.
IMO...it feels more responsive because it doesn't go from OD to 2nd or what ever. YOU have it int he gear you want and there is no lag in shifting and with the rpm's building up. Also, the shift "lag" is exactly 500 rpms. Shift it manually at 6500 and it will shift at 7k (first gear). Shift it at 6k and it will transition at 6500, aka redline. BTW, if there is an OD switch on the sport shift P5 I haven't found it yet.
OH, and don't listen to the knucklehead blaming poor driving skills on the auto.
as far as "rediculous low shift points"...I have no idea what you are talking about. I keep mine floored and I can watch it shift at 6500.
and this..."I just don't like how it still makes you shift when it wants to be shifted to a certain degree."...it will not do a 1-2-3 in a split second. there is a couple second delay. going from 2-1-2 will yield the same result. Racing through city traffic prolly isn't the way to drive any how.
"It's definitely better than auto mode but still not nearly as good as manual where it's in the gear you put it in when you put it there & you can count on it being there where you are more one with the vehicle. "...Funny really. The auto never upshifts for you and you will hit fuel cut off. It will downshift to 1st when you hit 3mph. WHy you need 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 8th at 3mph is beyond me.
reliability? either manually or a regular auto without "sport shift", the gears are selected electronically anyways. The only downsides I can see are...one takes the car past redline one too many times or dropping to a lower gear without rev matching, which will immediately induce engine braking.
As I have said...you have to know how to drive an auto. It's a fine technology that serves its purpose.
