Sportec S4 vs Stock STi

I honestly dont think the STi guys know how to drive that car to its potential ... plus if you floor it the injectors flood horribly. You really need to roll into the throttle to get decent times.

STis run 9.7 a/f ratio at WOT :eek: Plenty of horsepower hidden when tuned properly.
 
haha, upgraded turbos on that S4 (twin K04's vs stock K03's).. 12 second car easily, not sure what else is done, probably even faster

That's what I'm talking about. You really have to take price into consideration. Do you think Audi and make a car that can beat an STi for the same price? Not even close. If you pour enough money in it, you can make just about anything go fast.

Then you realize its a 2.7L V6 Turbo..And that STi had nothing on that S4..after a piggyback, its too easy to mod an S4 for them to fly..give it another grand.. your into mid 11's..STi's have lots of potential..but bottom line..its out classed.

What I'm NOT saying is that STi's aren't fast, or potentially faster cars..but the fact is..whatever you do to your STi..if that S4 gets the same mod, it'll blow you out of the water..and thats just a fact of life..because really, at the end of the day the audi rides nicer, looks nicer, and is just straight koosh..I love STi's..but its no audi..Moreover, I can't afford either, nor will I ever be able to..so I'll just stop talking..
 
We both could ever afford it....but I think you might be talking about a A6 not a S4. If money is no matter then I will outclass the Audi on my AMG Mercedes. (naughty)
 
No, that platform S4 had a bi-turbo V6..the new 2004+ S4's have a 4.2L V8..The RS6 has the Bi-Turbo 4.2L..Me and a buddy of mine want to put the 4.2L V8 into a 95 Audi 90..

Speaking of AMG, the SL600 V34 or whatever the hell it is called..Bi-turbo SL600..only like 34 were made..like 250k$..top gear tested one..it was...inspiring, to say the least..

Maybe he sucks at driving, but I just dont see him running high 12s with just an exhaust. Maybe on the best track in the country with drag radials with perfect temperature.

I've checked before & the best stock time for an STi I've seen is 12.9 & the average time for good drivers is 13.2. Your friend obviously can't drive, but I know of STi & Stage III WRX owners who are just as bad.

S4s DO NOT run mid 11s with a grand in mods...for $1000, you'd probably only be able to get exhaust. Parts for the S4 are $$, probably some of the most expensive mods other than BMW.



And for my own comment...even though he got pwned, I love the sound of the STi's programmable shift beep (it's even more fun if you actually get to ride in one). :D

Haha..wrong buddy..i spent a couple days running around waterfest talking to dahlback, APR, and KTR performance..the APR stage 1 S4 runs a 12.2..thats an 800$ upgrade...so, just keep digging. Realistically, a B5 S4 with an APR stage II/III system will run mid 11's..thats a kit though..Any idiot can spend 2-3k for the K04R upgrade and a good piggyback and run mid-high 11's..
 
moreover, I have a barrel full of crazy audi owners backing me up on this..i would bother saying it, if I haven't already seen it.
 
But the STi never claimed or intended it to be in the same class as the Audi. That's the point I'm trying to make. A $50+ gap is much too wide for them to be considered in the first class. Subaru's intent is to design and mass produce a relatively affordable sports car with very respectable specs for the masses. That's not the same market Audi is going after. Subaru never intended for the STi to be in the same class as the A6,S4, M3, AMG, etc. To try to compare the two is just rediculous. It's like trying to compare a McLaren F1 or and Enzo to the A6. They're both very respectable sports cars but they are obiousely not in the same class. If I had an STi I wouldn't expect to beat out an A6. But at a third of the price, I'd take the STi and find other fun stuff to do with the money. Bang for the buck is with the STi and I don't think anyone can argue that.

Bang for the buck, definetly. No one should compare the two cars..But S4 and M3's are like this magic mystery for kids..It's like..My car beat an S4..my car beat a M3..woopde doo...doesn't mean a damn thing..
