Spool Dyno #s are in!

Nice job Spool. I just want the ECU fix to come up before I do anything to my car. Once that's out - I'll have one fast MSP!

Spool,

How do you think the ECU fix will affect the CAI and FMIC add on, especially with the upped boost, that you just tested?

just curious as to your opinion, i know you probably don't know exactly what will happen, just wondering if you think it will be safe to run that boost level(10psi), with the add-ons, without any problems?

thanks. keep up the great work!

I will field this question, if Terry does not mind. :D The ECU fix will benefit greatly, with a CAI and FMIC. As far as running higher boost, learn about forced induction before you crank the boost after the fix. I cannot stress enough for the msp owners, who have not owned, nor tuned a boosted car, to learn about forced induction.

I personally, will not be boosting 10+ pounds after the fix, without proper engine monitoring, and managment. :D IE at LEAST knock, and Wideband O2 sensors, and ability to DYNO TUNE fuel and spark.

Well if this fabled fix ever does come out then (I will after hearing whether or not it makes less power ) decide if I want my ECU flashed then turn down my boost and adjust it accordingly.
Of course this is assuming that the car is not pig rich after the flash.
I do want a FMIC and a full exhaust after that I will be done.

SO, without the tuning ability of engine management or fuel controller, would you say it would be safe to boost to 9 psi without having to worry about anything.

trust me, i am trying to learn all that i can right now about forced induction (first turbo car), that is why i am asking the questions, so that guys like you and terry can help to educate guys like me.

i am not going to go off and do anything stupid, that is why i am asking the questions up front, so that i know what products would be wise to purchase and how they will affect the performance/drivability of the car.

thanks for the info.

Spool, What happened to the picture of the guy doing a speech? That was by far the best pic out there. Can you please post pics up again.. Sorry, I'm to lazy to search for it! Great Products!

I think ION's posts were very valid and did not, in anyway, deserve the multitude of comments. The questions asked were more then respectful and important for us (the consumer) to know before droping large chunks of change on the "best bang for the buck" mods

Anyway, I think this is great! Competition is the best thing you can see for a new platform. Like Blitz, HKS, and A'pexi having a HP battle...everyone benefits. From best mods to lower prices, competition benefits everyone

Spool-When I go to Richmond to visit my mom next time I will be sure to visit your shop to check out the operation first hand to possibly throw some business your way and some HP in my direction

Thanks again,
Bakari- who wishes he could drop more cash on the MSP

WELL IF WE CAN GET BACK TO THE DYNO RUNS. HOW ABOUT THOSE DYNO RESULTS SCANNED SO WE CAN SEE THE GOOD JOB:D

Are you driving the 240 or the msp?... hehe :D

perfworks - they will be up asap

hey! terry will post the numbers and charts on spool-turbo.com. wanted to thank terry and spool for all there help. the car has a joe p boost control. the car was ran with spool's cai, fmic and hks bov. there is no modifacation to the fuel cut off it is still stock. and yes you can run 10 psi all day long.

thanks justin

Spool- I will be driving the MSP. I am done modding the 240 until I retire her from daily driver duties and go full on track prep.

I may bring the 240 down. I need some dyno tuning done can you PM or email me the price per hour to have you guys put my ride on the dyno and maybe we can hash out some solutions to little bugs I need worked out.

Do you have any experience with SRs?

spoolinmp3 - If you guys feel that clarifying data to allow for an "apple to apple" comparison is undermining, then we truely appologize. No hard feelings
I dont think the point that people have been making is that you came in our thread and started to ask us many questions that seems odd.

I am not trying to flame but generally in regards with other sponsors such as High Boost, Flying Protege, Perfworks ect we kinda respect each others space and do not post in each others threads. It may happen sometimes but its not a continuing prodding of posts. I am in no way offeneded and sincerely accept your appology:)

Its just that it may be taken by several forum members as a bit hostile when an another manufacturers post count is higher in a thread then the actual thread starter. We have been posting dynos on this board since it basically opened up its doors 2 years ago and no one really questioned us as many times as you did about dyno's ect, especially other vendors and we extended the same courtesy. I dont think I have ever posted or commented on any of your threads. I dont think its my place. If I want to say something or sell something I just do it on my own

In regards to Dyno numbers we posted peak numbers of all runs......thats the way it has always been done and we will continue to do this much like most aftermarket companies. We are here to sell a product. We are not lying or fluffing things up. The car made the numbers and we post the best ones we made. We ran a bunch of runs back to back and we had pretty good consitency. All of the 10psi runs were in the high 190whp range.

Another very very important aspect is that dynos are not king in the land of performance. I never tune a car on a dyno.....its hog wash. The load, aerodynamic ect conditions are totally different and dynos are done at WOT. We tune a street car put it on the dyno.....then tune for higher numbers.....then put it back on the street and the car runs horrible. So it never made much sense for me to tune a car on the dyno and I dont live or die by them. Another thing Dyno's are inconsistent from one to another.....many many factors are involved and dont base your opinion on a product from its dyno numbers. Now that I have said that and its out of the way I would like to continue the thread :)

As you can see from our charts there were significant dips in the power band because of the overly rich fuel maps on the MSP. We are trying to come out with an accurate form to control fuel maps through out the rpm range enabling some real acceptable A/F's ;)

SO WE CAN SEE THE GOOD JOB
Thanks Perf:D

That shmuck is me at our open house:p
I dont have the pic.....I can try digging it up

You can safely run 12psi without any audible ping HOWEVER there is no documentation or long term testing at these levels so only time will tell how our motors handle 12psi for the long haul

Looking foward to meet ya:)
Chris has possessed my mind and shortly I will be purchasing a nice little SR to play with:cool:

Really unsure since we do not know really know much mazda will lean out the fuel maps. I have a hunch that they will not get to crazy and keep it pig rich. If so we can still run 10psi with no probs I would imagine
also, whats the difference between these msp and our turboed pro5/mp3?? i mean...you guys are getting high 250/260hp with only 13psi on the other cars...is it just the fact that its the microtech or the bigger turbo?? just wondering
The MSP's turbo is really undersized for the application. We are running bigger turbos and better maps thats why we are making the big #'s.
OH. SPOOL GUYS. Awesome. Keep up the good work. Hopefully after we move I can be more social and actually call up you guys again to see how things are going.
Cool call us:)

Does Injen really have a big advantage if any at all with their CAI going straight to the turbo?

WTF is going on here, I swear this board has more trolls than actual members. Now we got someone bad mouthing spool.
