Split-Second AFC N/A Thread

ok it looks like im going to get this thing soon. the installation seems simple, so that wont be a problem. but after i hook it up then what? do i hook it up the computer and make a map before i start the car, then start improving on the map? or should i start the car when i hook it up? im scared that im going to blow the engine.

what kind of map should i start off with and then i can improve on it?
since our cars run fairly rich, wouldnt the msp map work? i can just use the map on the afc, then i can lean out the whole map, right?

what do you guys think?

The MSP map will make the car richer. Just load every cell with a value of 10, so it's completely stock, then jump on the dyno and get to tuning! :D

That's what I was hoping for...using 10's for all the cells...then getting a driver, and road tuning for a while...then dyno tune for the WOT, and higher RPMs...

whats the car at right now? why would i want the ratio to be 10:1 the whole time? is that a good idea?

You'll pretty much only be able to tune for WOT. Below that, the car runs in closed loop and your AFR's will be controlled by the stock ECU.

ok i understand this tuning thing a lot better now after reading all 27 pages.

i understand how to tune open and closed loop now. but before, you just said not to tune closed loop? why? do you need a scan tool to do it? i dont see how you can tune open loop if you dont make the base map first?

Can you rephrase that? I dont understand...

in the directions it says you need to tune closed loop as well. your saying you dont have to? i thought you need to tune closed loop before open? i thought the open loop map was based off of the closed loop?
please correct me, and thank you for your help.

it also said you need a scan tool?

Just a wideband.

ok so you have to tune open and closed loop according to the directions, correct? no different right?

You can't tune open loop. Stock ECU has that hard-coded into it. The AFC tricks your stock ECU into staying in closed loop, then modifies the signals fro mthe O2 sensor and MAF to get the fuel you want...

ooo, ok, so then your going to be in closed loop all the time. ok i understand that.

so in the directions, it is the same way to tune the car right? tunning the trimming ratios? do i do the same thing?

but what happens when your at wot? thats the thing i dont understand. if the car is supposed to go to open loop, whats going to happen?

and just to make sure im on the same page, 10 is neutral, under 10 will lean out the ratio and over 10 will richen it up. when you have a negative number, it means your running rich, and postive means your running lean. and the objective is to make the short and long trims to be equal to zero as close as possible right?

ok i got my split second afc today. im going to read the directions back and front to hopefully answer all my questions. im going to install it next week, after i install my new eibach pro kit springs. after i get that s*** in, im going to worry about tunning.

hopefully vista is going to work too with the program. ken says it wont and split second said it will so.

k i got the split second controller and i was reading the directions, and it is nothing like the u tune directions that i read before. it seems to be alot simpler.

my question is, where does the wideband hook up go? i bought verison 2 and i have no idea where the wideband goes. and where do you plug in the com cable to the controller? theres no port for it, is the port inside of it?
