Posting this so i dont jack the thread about what oil to use.

In that thread Hank3 mentioned a "spin-on conversion with a Fumoto valve".

The question is... what is it? how does it work? Do they sell them at autozone? :D (i probably know the answer to the last one there)

yea there's a thread on here somewhere that has that info. if you're talking about the oil filter it will change it from a cartridge type to a spin-on type.

not sure about the "fumuto valve" though. maybe it's a different drain plug that you can drain from a valve instead of the constant removal and tightening of the drain plug itself

sweeeeeeeeet Thanks guys. So i do ocasionaly bring my cah to the dealer for oil changes. Will they get bent out of shape about this?

People usually do this conversion becuase its easier for themselves to do the oil change, not the dealership. They shouldn't beef because it is Mazda OEM part technically.

Right on. The spin-on and the quick drain valve make this a piece o' cake.

hmmm I might do this because im currently trying to find the right wrench to take the damn filter off. i have hear a 76mm cap wrench?

After all is said and done, this should cost you around $70 to do and about an hour or two of your time. Definitely worth it if you're planning to do your own oil changes.

another reason for doing this it allows you to use a bigger standard oil filter, adding to the total oil capacity. when i did mine, i went w/ a wix 51516, filter from a mazda b3000 truck, and that sucker is huge compared to the cartridge. it now takes a full 6.5 qts to clear the max fill line. i figured the more oil circulating, the happier the bearings. i loooove my ms3. (kiss)

Good to know, I am still considering this myself.

I had forgotten to mention that plus side of doing it. I too went with a bigger filter.
