omg...what is the australian to USD conversion rate? (boom01)

Looks like that $69K number is around $51.9K USD

I wonder if it has additional equipment as well?

EDIT: Looks like i-stop and i-ELOOP are on there

I was able to check a signature model out today while mine was getting an oil change. I didn't drive one but since it was 730a and there were no sales people I was able to pour over the car for nearly 30 minutes.
Notes:
Signature is very nicely appointed. The leather and the feel of the quality materials (especially the wood) is amazing.
It does feel smaller than the the previous model. In the cockpit area you're more closed in, which I actually like, the spacing and and shoulder room seem about the same but the cockpit itself isn't as "loose" as the previous model.
That being said the 2nd row has less room. You can't move the seats as far back as the previous model. In mine with my seat pretty far back, there is still a lot of leg room for that row. After I'd adjusted the seat in the new model, I sat in the back and while my knees weren't hitting the seat, there definitely was less room. The seat backs on the new model are a lot more carved out then the previous gen too. I won't get into the lack of tilt on the drivers seat, but it was noticed.
A significant issue I found was that there is a good sized gap in cargo area with the 3rd row down. With the 2nd row all the way back there is at least 1 1/2 to 2 inches of space in between the tops of the folded down seats and where the 2nd row stops. I attempted to adjust the 2nd row a number of ways, tilting the seats all the way back etc. and still had that gap. As someone who transports a dog frequently that bugs me and seems like a waste of space. The 3rd row doesn't fold down nearly as flat as the previous gen too and the cargo seems noticeably narrower and shorter than previously.
I'm tempted to drive one but most likely won't until I'm actually in teh market for a new vehicle, don't want to get the bug to get one, and IMHO I'd rather wait a few years for them to work out any new bugs that turn up. I will say that the build quality and the materials again were really nice. The price of the signature was $45700 which was pretty decent IMO for all the features, we'll see how it holds up in a year or two. My in laws are getting a Pilot Elite this fall most likely and I'll be able to directly compare.

The launch in Australia is Sunday. I stopped by to see if they had one .. And they did :-)
I could sit in it... Waow it looks even nicer in really life than on the photos. The one I saw was red with beige interior (GT). Truly beautiful inside out.

The only thing that disappointed me was the size. It feels much smaller inside than the old model.

Boot space looks much smaller
Leg room looks much smaller
Feels not as wide in back seats 2nd and 3rd row.
When I sit in the 3rd row my head touches the roof.. I am 180cm and have no issue in my 2014my.
Feels super cramped in the back compared to outgoing model.
It's a shame it's one of the element that seduced me against the competition.

A few photos below.

Drive it. You will love it. I had the old cx9 with v6. with the new one, I have an smile every time I press the gas pedal. I really like when I feel more and more power and acceleration but the SUV don't drop a gear like the old model

Achieving 5 stars in the traditional tests is pretty much a given in any new midsize CUV. Today's new challenge is the small offset test and most new vehicles are designed to do well in that too. The CX-9 will undoubtedly do very well. The long hood only adds to its advantage.

2nd-gen CX-9 scored 5-star rating in Australian ANCAP crash test is definitely a good sign. Although it may be a "traditional" crash test like US' NHTSA crash test, but the more good crash ratings from different organizations the better which indicates the vehicle is well designed for safety. You never know the outcomes from those crash tests. When we purchased our 2016 Mazda CX-5, NHTSA crash test ratings printed on the window sticker were not available yet. We're under the assumption that the crash test ratings would be as good as previous MY, as the face-lifted 2016 CX-5 didn't have any changes structure wise. But when NHTSA released the crash test ratings for 2016 CX-5, that surprised many people. The rating for frontal crash test on passenger side is downgraded from 5 stars to 3 stars, which is among the worst in all 2016 compact CUVs!

I've got another suggestion for a firmware update - are you listening Mazda? :D

If I'm in Nav mode, or even at the main menu, it would be nice if the screen would show - even briefly - the radio station I'm on if I change the station by the steering wheel switches. I thought this was something they didn't consider until I hit the "mute" button, which showed up as a message on the display. *Someone* thought of that, why not the radio station? :)

No kidding? I mean, having the next cross street displayed is cool I guess, but I'm usually more interested in what's playing on the radio.

So i definitely agree with you. However, there are some really cool things about the Mazda Connect system that other systems don't have. The system was developed by Johnson Controls, and it is a pretty customizable platform. For example, there's quite a bit of development happening on the Mazda 3 systems.

Check out this link for more information: Click Here

So what does this mean?
You can do things like:
  • Disable the Warning Messages on Startup
  • Enable the Touch Screen While Moving
  • Personalize the background image and Color Scheme (e.g. Make the red buttons a different color)
  • Install a custom Speedometer app that's pretty slick
  • One person actually developed their own Android Auto interface.

These are just a few. I am working with the developer to get our version of the system supported. Once we have it working, I will post more information on how to install. OBVIOUSLY, this is a do at your own risk type thing. But none-the-less, it's still pretty cool because a lot of the annoyances with the current system are resolved with this tweak.

Oh man, that's awesome. Thanks - lots of reading to do!

Edit: These are really cool and just what I was looking for. Looks like my request has already been made too.

Yeah it is. Just wait until we get it right first. Somebody jumped the gun and had a problem with their infotainment. It won't be long

Is there a thread specific to 2016 models? I'm hesitant to brick my new car. :D

Is development done in the simulator? I wouldn't mind lending a hand.

I found info on the web regarding Screen Mirror and mkv video playing on the Mazda cx5 screen.

I will check if this works on the new cx9
