Speed/Rev limiter on 1.6L

My 1.6 protege has seen 110. That's it. It definately lost power at 110 don't know if it was a limiter or just didn't have any power to go faster. That was 110 on the speedo. With my bigger tires the actuaal speed was probably 120-125.

I can second this. On the three sisters cruise my speedo got a little over 105mph and ran out of power completely. I also am running 215/45/17 tires with a 99 pro dx trans... But at the drag strip i hit fuel cut at 7,500 rpm... What rpm was the engine at?

I think you mean fuel cut at 6500 that's the stock rev limiter. Mine runs 215 45 17s and right at 110 its done.in 5th gear at 110 I think it was around 4500rpm

Redline and fuel cut are 2 different things. Redline=Rpm where inertia of valve may overcome force applied by spring, i.e. Valve float. Most cars have redline so your pistons don't hit your valves when the revs get high, and some engines are not designed for high revolutions i.e. Big block chevy motor lower redline, heavier rotating assembly. Honda s2000 ap1 redline 9k because of lighter rotating assembly among other things. Fuel cut=Rpm that the ECM/PCM pulls injector duration and retards ignition timing...

Speedracer79 and I live between 5-7k... The 1.6 can handle it. What can't is the clutch. LOL

I'm thinking there's something different about the ECM for the pre 2001 models for it to allow ya'll to go that higher up in speed and RPM.

I live my life 5-7K RPM at a time for those 5 revs or more im free...lol
