I finally got the loot together to buy a new motor for my MSP. people on the forum told me to go to speedcircuit and get a motor from them since i dont want to break the bank and go forged just yet. Still have a few questions, will i be able to run 7-9 PSi after the swap? i have all the supporting mods suggested to run 9PSI on the stock protege engine. I want to make sure my car will be comparable in power to what i have now.

there shouldnt be any difference seeing as its the same motor. how much do u have saved up? it would be a shame if u had enough to go forged now and bought a stock block and have to spend another chunk of money on the forged money.

I chose speedcircuit because a lot of people on here refered me to them. I have enough to buy forged parts but not enough for the labor. If i wasn't making payments on the car i would wait and go forged but its been sitting for 10 months now, and need to get it back on the road. Really sick of driving my beat up 99 Dakota

as long as you have a good tune you should be ok with 7-9 PSI with the supporting mods you have listed. I would toss on one step colder plugs as some insurance. I would save the money on getting the forged internals since there just going to sit and pound the for sale section till you see a great deal, then jump on them. You'll save some dough plus by then you might have enough more saved up to cover the labor!!!
I'm sure you can find a decent shop by you to due the internal or just drive the car to PG and them fix you up.

X2. I started off forged to begin with. My plans were to just buy a stock motor as well but after all the stories I read of members going zoom zoom boom ( as this is what happened to the MSP I bought), I dont want that to happen to me. So far I have or will have invested about $2200 for everything including hone/bore the block and even having my crank redone and nitrited for strength. Even doing the Doc B oil pump coating with PRV. I will be putting it together with the help of my brother. If you have a good block to work with, this is what you can likely expect to spend.

if u plan to go forged do it now or forever kick urself in the ass. trust me

Indeed never drag a build your going to spend a grand on the used engine then a another 500 to put it in so thats about 1500.

Now 1500 can buy you if you really search

Arp head studs kit

Arias Piston and Pauter Rod

Cosmetic gasket and all bearings needed

Still need a good 1250 to get it built and balanced plus oil pump and water pump and a few misc items

a donor block on here is less than a 100bucks

Then you'll be forged??

I would save up and forged that b**** if you have a backup ride like stated.

Trust me been there done that don't waste your time and money!

there is no need to go with pauter, k1 can be had for way cheaper and can hold up to whatever hp the fsde can throw at it. and boo on the arias pistons, they have been known to crack or peices will break off, wiseco is the best way to go.

thanks for all the good info. but work is slowing down for me and my g/f who i have a daughter with is threatening to leave and put me through the ringer for child support so i pretty much need to get it back on the road incase $*** hits the fan and i have to sell it:(

Where can I find some how to info on swaping a 2.0 liter in. This way I wont have to go through speedcircuit to get the info i need, and can get a cheaper used 2.0 liter somewhere

Dunno about the Mazdas but when I did my Honda the easiest way was to jack up the car and drop the engine and trans out through the bottom with a chainfall. Make sure you label all the connectors with big easy to see tags as you unplug them. I used to swap a Civic motor in about 3 hours with a friends help and I doubt the Mazda is much different.

Good luck with the GF!
