just wondering, and i am sure itts been talked about 2935806590 times, but what would be the difficulty rating on a 1-10 scale when it comes to changing the speakers on an 06 mazda 3i??? any input would help, thanks!!!

if 1 is the lowest (easiest) then id say a 1. its incredibly easy and will only take u less than an hour.

its "easy" if you know how to take off a door panel, otherwise if you know nothing about that, then it's not!

The following like has a pretty good set of pictures describing how to do it: http://www.sounddomain.com/ride/495957/3

In the interest of saving your door panel push pins, I would suggest removing the door when it is relatively warm, >= 70 degrees. The pins are plastice and can be brittle when cold. Even if you do break a few, they can be purchased at your dealership.

Otherwise, the installation is really quite simple, especially of you are replacing the stock speakers with ones of the same size (5x7/6x8).

just remember to use your stock rain guard for your new speakers... and 5 1/4 and 6 1/2 fit pretty easily as well with the correct adapter plate which most speakers now come with or can be bought for cheap....

I think www.crutchfield.com is one of the best sites for beginners in car audio. If you order a pair of speakers from them they will include the wiring harness, mounting plates, and complete instruction sheet on how to remove your doors at no additional charge. Their prices are comparable to retail stores and shipping costs are never that bad.

They currently have the Alpine SPS-570A 5 X 7 that is listed as "Fits!" on sale for $59/pair.

and for that amount, the alpine type S speakers are a great upgrade from stock speakers, and with the stock headhunit, you will see a real good change in sound quality...its a good compromise between performance and price... (thumb)
