Spark plug dilemma (2014 CX-5)

⋯ Regarding EV's from China, I'm not in the market for an EV but just saw on youtube videos about massive EV buildup (there's apparently a lot of brands offered) and some with quality problems like axles falling off. 😱
If you have a chance to check out the Beijing Auto Show recently, there’re literally 20+ brands of EVs on display. There definitely have some with poor quality. But those from BYD、Huawei、Xiaomi are as good as iPhone quality. They all offer both low-end and high-end EVs and compete with Tesla、BMW、Mercedes there. The EV batteries impress me the most as 1,000km / 621.37 mile range is a norm, with 1-second-for-1-km super fast charging capability. Tesla can’t compete with domestic EVs in China now and has to lower the price many times since last year. And Tesla has to buy those high-tech batteries from CATL and BYD in China for better range and speedy charging to compete there.

Unfortunately we can’t see any of these Chinese EVs (I’ve seen some buses) in the US with 102.5% tariff imposed. Just hope Chinese government won’t impose the same 102.5% duty on Tesla or iPhone there. Protectionism will never work for better and stronger economy.

Thanks for the confirmation of legitimacy.
Although many have used RA for good price, but I like you still hesitate to buy any parts from them. See these recent posts here although it isn’t the RA:

Hello,

Are there any techs out there?

Which originally I thought it was bad gas, after two weeks with it not stopping I hooked up my cheap scanner to being shocked with a reading of multiple misfires at high rpm’s. The engine starts fine and idles fine. Then when I go to pass a vehicle on the highway or when the RPM reaches 4.5 up it starts stuttering but has not popped an engine light. The spark plugs are new from last summer. Can the ignition coils all give a misfire.
Thank you in advance,

They were not counterfeit, it came from Parts Avatar, it’s Canada’s version of Rock Auto

I just went to Mazda and spent $200.00 for my new spark plugs 🤷🏻‍♂️ I went and test drove it and it does appear more responsive & peppier 👌😁 ZOOMZOOM RULES👌😁

I hope that this helps people that need new spark plugs, strictly buy OEM from MAZDA & it says on the box, Made in Japan 👌😁

Always remember that before replacing the plugs yourself is once you have the ignition coil off the plug, use the air compressor to rid of any potential risk of sand or something going in the hole. It’s an easy job. Takes me about 20 minutes. Good luck 😁 ZOOMZOOM
Thanks for the advise. I think I have read about it somewhere else too. I was planning to use vacuum and clean the whole engine bay around the spark plugs and coils and then replace them one by one.

Expensive spark plugs but overall cost of ownership has been low on my CX-5 so I sprung for the OEM plugs that were around $20-$25/piece. I can't remember now exact cost.. swapped them a couple years ago.

I suppose the only vehicles easier would be older with a spark plug boot to a distributor cap.

I still cannot believe the difference between the NGk and the OEM the engine is smoother, & peppier and looks like it’s going to be better on gas.

I LOVE MAZDA & MY 2016.5 GT Tech

There’s times that I feel like upgrading to a 2022 GT BUT WHY 🤷🏻🤪😁

I thought the OEM plugs were made by NGK.

Does resistance match on the non-OEM NGK for the Ion Sensing function?

As I posted in a different thread on here, I just purchased these same plugs last week from Amazon. Identical to A, B, C & D above. The resistance readings on mine were all within spec. I went one step further and contacted Niterra North America. After I sent them pics of the plugs and the code number stamped on them, they verified that they were genuine. I got them https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned) for $9.72 each plus tax (Amazon Prime, so no shipping cost). Installed them today and my CX-5 runs just fine. This is second set of these NGK plugs and I've never had a single issue with them.

$9.72 (67% off) each for a NGK ILKAR7L11 #94124 is an excellent price. The product info on Amazon page says the Country of Origin is Japan, but yours is made in Thailand?

Thanks for the feedback on your experience with these plugs. I'm not quite ready to install mine just yet but it's good to know they are problem free.

You bet that's an excellent price. Having Amazon Prime for free shipping I'd order from them if assured they would be genuine NGK plugs. I paid over $60 for mine ( $13.28 each + shipping) from NGK.com in an effort to minimize getting counterfeits.

Easily returned to Amazon if they are not genuine. Note the listing says "Eligible for Return, Refund or Replacement".

Correct, the new ones say Thailand. And Niterra assured me they were genuine.

This information might be more relevant to my fellow Canadians but I finally had a chance to talk to the Parts advisor at my local dealership. Sort of explained the whole situation regarding the aftermarket spark plugs from NGK. And yes the ones sold by Mazda dealers are still made in Japan. I saw it with my own eyes. They actually arrive to dealerships in bulks. Boxes of 20 or something. However what he said. If they have the exact same number most likely they are exactly the same spark plugs. There shouldn't be any difference in specification. He admitted that $50 per piece is outrageous but it's Mazda who sets up the prices for the parts. Apparently they did make some complaints to Mazda since many other parts became way more expensive than the average and they do notice that people are start looking for alternatives. I noticed that their oil change was very reasonable priced. The kit they used was like $34 for regular engine and $39 for skyactive. I would pay $60 to $70 canadian for regular oil change. Now the kit is almost $60 and with 20 min of labour which is approx another $50 the oil change became $110 spending.

Anyway. NGK spark plugs from local, reputable stores like Canadian Tire are selling for $22 per piece. I am going to give it a try and report back.

On the side note. I asked him also about value line and he said that at some point they tried to use the parts like brake pads and rotors and they immediately started receiving complaints about squeaking and premature wear so apart from small items like wipers they stop offering them. He personally would stay away from things like oil filters, brake pads, spark plugs etc. They are cheaper for a reason.

Motorhead Japan has PE5R-18-110 for $16.62

Shipping is usually pretty cheap if you go the Postal Service Ordinary. This can take a couple weeks to receive so don't expect Amazon next day.
