Is is just me, or are there an increasing number of these on the forums lately. I clicked on a thread about Obama and some pornographic pictures popped up.

Anyone else notice this? I'm sure the mods are aware of this and trying to fix it.

Yeah, they've been all over the place lately. One pet peeve that I have is that when spammers get banned, their posts don't always get deleted. Or their links are left active...

You've gotta keep in mind though, admins don't get paid for this stuff and have their own lives to take care of. I don't notice any more bots around here then I do on other forums....but I still always report them.

The admins cant really do anything more then a moderator can. Ban and delete said post(s). Ive already tried finding ways to fix this on an RC Forum I manage(RadioControlZone.com / No, Im not spamming) Mainly becuase we have a wide range of ages that visit the site day after day. And having a 13 year old open a thread to find Pocahontas blowing a horse doesnt sit well. Im very tired of dealing with it personally, and think if these BB's where any kind of smart, they would go after and sue the s*** out of these spammers and porn advertisers like MySpace did. But until something gets done, we will have to live with it.

If you click the report post button (the ! in the triangle), an email will be sent to the mods. I think we're waiting on a VB upgrade that should hopefully take care of the spam...I've turned off images until that happens. I know I, and probably anyone else, doesn't need surprise pr0n popping up mid-thread.

Donas - I'm going to move this to the website issues section - I know the superadmins cruise through there fairly regularly.

Indeed, NSFW sucks...

There may be active mods present but mods of different sub forums. So when we see a spam thread we quickly ban the user as to prevent that same spam user to quickly make more spam threads. Only mods from that subforum can edit the original post, so other mods can ban, like you mentioned, but cannot edit or delete the original post (s).

Oh, I know. I'm not knocking on the mods; just wanted to make clear that the links themselves are the reason for the spam in the first place. Trust me, I know that you guys can't cover every post of every thread. Just want to make sure that SOP is to get rid of the links too... (2thumbs)

I noticed if you send the spammer a pm saying GET THE **** OUT they tend to stop post or it seems anyways. I guess it messes up their proggie.

That or it has been reported by another member and they have been banned.

Best thing is to do as racerxgirl said, turn images off in your control panel options

eh I hover my mouse over any new thread and wait for that little pope up to appear so I have a general idea what to expect. The spammers generally come on between 2-6am EST and I'm generally am one of the first people to report providing it appears safe for me to click ino th thread while at work. I also pm the admin with a link to threads.

:D and we appreciate it!

The Moderator Team and myself are always trying keep spammers at bay and until we can get a practical system that effectively prevents spam...We'll need the communties full support!

StealthWyvern has been PMing me whenever he spots spam that has yet to be removed...especially hardcore Pr0n spam and it has been a great help...If any of you spot spam, I encourage you to PM the Moderators of that Forum and myself so that we can remove it ASAP!

Be sure to include LINKS!

Thanks! :D
