i need sum more help on a topic i have littlek nowledge of.. u car gurus will prob me able to help me out.(bump)
i wanna know:
on my mazdaspeed 3 i wanna put 18x8 45mm offset.. with 235/40 rubber.. along with eibach sportline sptrings(roughly a 1.6/1.8" drop).. will this rub? is the tyre size wrong?
and the MAIN thing.. i have 5 ppl in my car everyday.. so is the springs a bit much? even if i roll my fenders? well help is needed.

It will be close. Unless they are little kids, cramming 5 people into this car causes it to seriously drop. Mine did with 4 adults and some stuff in the back yesterday. I'm running standard springs (not lowered) and 235/40s. It did not rub but it was pretty close.

Correction: It DID rub but I just did not notice it until I washed the car tonight...

Best bet is to do the drop first. Go to a shop with a drive on lift like an alignment rack (which you need after the springs anyway) and have every one pile in while you measure up clearance from stock rims. Then you can see how much wider you can really go.

Ok thanks.. will a 18x8 run 215/45 rubber?
and will it still touch even if i roll the fenders?
im from South africa.. s its kinda hard to get "know how" here..

Your best bet is to find a better offset. On a well designed car all suspension geometry is calculated to work with factory offset.
I think that 48mm is as far from factory 53 that one should go. This will keep the geometry proper as well as help make rubbing less likely.

That being said 53 is still your best bet, it will work the best and be the least likely to rub.

With 18x8 53 or 52, 235's will not rub for sure.
Anything under 52 I would be more nervous about.

I never seen a 18x8 on a 50-53mm offset. The highest I've found is 48.

cocopops, if you really want 18x8 with 235/40, you need 48 offset and is better NOT to lower you car. But if you go with 225/40 you may get away with it.

Check this site and put your stock tire info and the setup that you want, and it will tell you how good or bad it is:

If my memory serves me correctly, Driver311 is running a 18x8 45mm with sportlines, but I dont think he has 235/40s. I'm going to run 18x8 45mm with Cobb's springs with stock tires until they are done, then moving to a 225/40. I would bet (especially with 5 people) that 235s plus a 45mm offset that you will rub.

The problem is that cocopops carries 5 people on his car everyday. That and 18x8 45et rims, 235/40 tires and a lowered car is a bad combo.

yeah 5 ppl bein the main issue..
if i run 215/45(stock rubber) on th 18x8 45mm with a *1inch* drop.. will it rub?
i seem to have gathered that 235's are out.. and the 1.8 inch drop tout too.
but how bout 215/45 on 1inch drop.. (eibach pro kit)...
:)

235's are not out, 45mm should be out.lol

I'm running 235/40/18s on 18x7.5 48mm rims. The car is not lowered. I've had no problems - except - when I had 2 adults and a bunch of crap in the back. I hit a pretty large dip on the freeway in LA last week and one of the back tires definitely made contact with the fender. I have had zero problems under normal conditions with 1 or 2 kids in the back. The stock suspension definitely goes waaaaay down when a couple of adults get in the back. Maybe it's different with stiffer springs...

okay.. so i have gathered this..
from driver 311.. 5 ppl on 215/45s on a 18x8 with a 1?? inch drop.. with 5 ppl is all good?
orr.. am i still not all clear.. ill roll my fenders if i have too(dunno is thats a good practice???)..
and here in South Africa.. they compress the standard springs for u to whatever drop u want.. so 1inch compression.. is this dangerous?
it costs only like 75$$..

@ 2manycars..
k thing is ive already got the 18x8's 45mm being shipped to South africa..
so gotta work with those...
i think ill see what happens without a drop.. and if all looks good.. ill drop it after that..

Do NOT do that with the springs. You can't compress them, they're probably talking about cutting the springs or heating them up to soften them and both of these are not good options. Get replacement springs from a reputable company, or leave them alone.

Bottom line: Your 235/40-18 should work with an 18x8 45mm offset, but you may need to roll the fender lip depending on your drop, and the tire's shape. Its close. 3mm is a very, very small measurement, you'll get better results from rolling or shaving the lip.

Can any bodyshop do the fender roll?
