Sounds stupid to say... but unless your ballin', avoid doing burnouts (MS3)

Just wanted to pass this on. I've done a couple nice burnouts in the MS3... not too many... maybe five good burnouts through first gear.

Today I checked the tread on my front tires vs. my rear... the rears had about 2 mm more tread than the fronts... wow. The fronts are maybe 1-2 mm from needing to be replaced using the "Abe Lincoln's head on the penny" trick...

So... yeah... from now on traction control stays ON. I don't even want to know what these tires cost.... In the meantime I will rotate them and leave them that way for a long time

Well now you know burnouts cost money. :)

Ahh there only $800 a set no biggie just get a new set every other month, lol.

I drove not hard at all and after 5k miles my fronts were much more worn then the rear. I will have to rotate every 2500 miles from now on or these tires are toast just normal driving.

So how many total miles do you have on the car? I'd expect the fronts to be more worn anyway, because of fwd, front engine, braking, etc. There are just too many independent variables to say that the discrepancy was caused those burnouts. But yeah, you should avoid burnouts for that and many other reasons.

i haVE 9K ON MY AR AND MY TIRES ARE STILL DECENT I ROTATED MY TIRES AROUN 3.5K-4K BECAUSE I WAS LAUNCHING AND and burning out and s***...u can get set of tires online for about 450 with alooooot more tread life than this stock 140 bs

$450 for a set of tires is going to buy you $450 worth of s***. No way are you going to get decent tires at the price range.

dont forget all the other things the front tires do like turning, and they cary more weight, o yeah over 60%of breaking.

...then there's road surface...
Concrete is abrasive as hell and really rough on tires. New asphalt is just about as abrasive since all the smaller particles are still at the road surface. Old, unbroken asphalt is probably the easiest on tires since all the girt is worn away and the pebbles that are exposed have been polished by traffic...

they are kuhmo tires on tirerack.com not too bad, traction and temp are AA and the tread life is 340 they pretty good if u ask me

I have been told they arent great tires but who knows I havent tried them and dont think I will.

You do get what you pay for and for a set of so called ultra high performance tires costing that little makes me a skeptic.

when the time comes to get new tires and if i buy those ill let everyone know how they turn out

ppl are generally scared away from kuhmos because of the "get what you pay for" rule. This is generally true, but from my personal experience with khumos on my protege, is that they are longer lasting than tires that cost twice as much without sacrificing too much quality. For daily driving, they are perfectly satisfactory. You may lose some handling and get a little increased road noise, but they will give you easily 15k extra miles on a set of tires. If you want to spend $250/tire, you can get a reallly nice set that will be better and last longer than the bridgestones, but since not all of us are made of money, tires like the kuhmo's are a good option.

My best advice, go to a site like tire rack and read the reviews, compare the specs, do your homework. After doing that, then make your decision on which tires are right for you. you may be surprised at some of the options...

I am DEFINATLEY looking at Kuhmo's when it comes time to get rid of these tires. I know more than a few guys who track race or autocross and have nothing but good to say about them. Everything I've heard is that they are a great compromise between grip and tread life. And they price is definately hard to beat.

Thanks to those of you who chimed in with your experiences with the overall wear of the stock tires... now I don't feel so stupid for doing the burnouts. I have just under 4000 miles on the car, and have not yet rotated the tires. I usually rotate at 5k miles... but yeah I'll be rotating these early.

I suppose you have 2 options for track racing and thats either you cant afford good tires to thrash in one days fun or you buy cheapies and kill them in 2 days but dont get the best performance you could have.

I wont be buying them just because they are too cheap in my opinion and I fear wasting my money. I will spend an extra $75 per tire and get the BFG sport tires that came stock on the SRT-4's. They should have longer tread life and cost $25 less then stock but maintain the same performance according to the numbers.
