Sound recording of the MazdaSpeed Exhaust

Ya next time I'm going to be further away from the muffler. That is taken right at the tip so some air was probably being pushed into the mic causing that distoration. But gives a general idea of the sound being produce.

Its a good sounding muffler though in person, really pleased with it.

Honestly, I really love me MS exhaust, but it does have one big drawback: drone. On the highway, it can get so damn annoying, but otherwise, it's incredible. Next time I meet up with Rob, we'll have to take a better recording. Still, it gets the point across.

Chandler, Rob, no offense, but it sounds like a tone i'd hear on a '50s radio. Doesn't do the exh any justice. Whos car did you do it on? Have one with your intake rob?

yeah, i wanted the exhaust but i dunno. I just played it now and my roomate said it sounded like a leaf blower. s***...

ill head down to a dealer and hear it in person before i buy.

haha yeah, it is better in person, to be honest. Rob recorded that with his video camera, while sitting right in front of the exhaust tip. I'll see if we can meet up and take a better recording soon.

So you can hear the sound in highway? nnooo!!!

and that is only revving it up to 2500-3000rpm's, you should put the mic on the rear bumper and go try it out on the freeway at redline. It get's gawd awfully loud when pushed. I wouldn't call it annoyingly loud, just you know it's there when crusing normal speeds down the freeway. I have had much, much worse exhausts... :) And it sounds much better in person. I would have to concur with REMillers and move away from the tip next time. :D Thanks for doing this for us though! I appreciate it.

Going to probably meet with him again today and take better clips, plus bring my dB meter so we can measure the "loundess" over a stock P5.

the recording sounds too muffled................i know for a fact its better in person. not ricey at all. but it does get a bit loud on the highway.......but thats what the radio is for :)

Anyone interested in dB ratings of it:

Stock P5 with intake (mine) on the highway 80mph=89-93 dB
Idle around 85.

Mazdaspeed: Idle around 88.
5,000 rpmish-94

dB rating at the muffler 112.

Really in most driving situations it is very close to stock dB ratings. It isn't till you really get on it that the dBs increase.

Good axle back for people wanting a slight sound increase but nothing really annoying.

Ok here is a better capture of the sound with the video that was taken to show how far from the muffler it was.
Stand further back and it sounds even nicer.
Follow behind the car on the road and you barely hear it unless he is really getting on it.

Right Click Save as
DIVX5.0 codec, 4megs

cool, thanks for the upload.

and i like the title of the .avi, lol.

im getting it regardless....hope it sounds good in person
