I've got Dynamat extreme in my doors but I would go broke trying to cover the entire car. I wonder what the profit margin is for these companies. None of them are cheap and the smell of the asphalt ones is a huge turn-off.

God, that brought back bad memories. Did my first car with Dynamat Original, all the existed at the time, second with Extreme and various others with spray on Dynamat. Of the three I much prefer using the spray on and a compressor if you have the time to do it. It's tedious masking everything off but after a few layers it really works great and get into every little spot.

$2000 to *completely* cover my '93 ford ranger std cab (in 1994 dollars) back when i was doing competition (93 to 97)
there wasn't a square centimeter left uncovered

silver on the firewall, reg. everywhere else, and the light stuff on the roof
you could throw a brick at my doors and it would bounce off, leaving only a scratch in the paint

dynamat doesn't smell, and besides, once it's in, you cover it with carpet or door panels w/e

I have some dynamat extreme that I purchased a long time ago for project quiet but will be purchasing some ensolite and BXT from RAAMaudio to suplement thanks in part to this review and advice from people here.

Granted I'm very new to car audio, but I've never heard of this. Is it relatively new, or could I expect that any shop that would carry dynamat would also have the spray on, not just the 'peel and stick'?

The spray-on stuff has been around just as long as the peel-and-stick as far as I know. I have never had good luck with it.
