Someone keyed my MSP

Someone keyed the passenger side of my MSP on Valentines Day. Do you think that I can take my car back to Mazda and see if they will do the body work with the original paint? I'm sure any other auto body shops will not use the original paint to replace the damage. Does anyone have any suggestions?

It will cost you, but Im sure they will.

Dealers do the WORST Body work. :D Take it to a smaller shop in your area. That is how they make thier money, not from selling cars. All they need is the Factory paint code, and they can match it perfectly. :D

Thats what they do for body kits.

dont take it to the deler unless you wanna be ***** and they will not care about your car at all, do research and find a GOOOD body shop with a reputation. The dealership doesnt car how good or bad your comes out that not where the make money they make it on sales and oil changes.

yeah... the paint the dealer will use won't be any better than what any other place can get. More than likely it won't be as good as what's on there now. I was told by the dealership that when the car comes from the factory, the paint is baked on. Basically they can't duplicate it 100%.

Too big to touchup?

did you make someone mad?
dumb fuckers...haters and ignorant ass people, gotta love em
i agree with boost, dealers aren't the best for bodywork
good luck hope everything works out :-[

most body shop's bake the paint onto a car after it has been sprayed onto the body panels.
it might not be "100%" but odds are you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
just make sure you go to a repuatable place that's all.

I didn't make anyone mad, I think. I think it is some random ignorant act on a beautiful automobile. Damn shame. There are a million bodyshops in Chicago, so how do I determine which shops are reputable. Thanks for the advice.

Call, and ask to see some of thier work. I know most shops around here keep portfolios of work they have done. 1 shop has several pics of cars they had to practically cut in half, and put a whole new front/rear end on. Simply amazing work. :D

Body shops do so much of a better job than dealers. They take the time to do the work right the first time. They won't give you too much of a hassle either and they won't **** you in pricing. Especially if its not too big of a job. How deep are the scratches, they might be able to be buffed out.

Either way I would still recommend going to a shop.

a dealership's idea of fixing a scratch: "let's buff the s*** out of the paint and put horrible swirl marks in it and see if that fixes it" (hand)

The problem with a scratch like this is that the cant just repaint the scratch, the have to sand down the entire area to the next break in the body, then primer, paint and clear coat.

What color is your MSP? My spicy orange is a tri-coat paint and I'll bet the other MSP's are too. Not counting primer, there's a base coat, a mid coat with the mica flakes in it, and the clear coat. They are a b**** to match up. I just got an estimate on getting a fender redone on mine because a previous repaint of those parts doesn't match properly. It's going to cost $575.00, and the paint shop is going to blend the fender into the bumper cover and door rather than "panel paint" it. The guys I'm taking it to came highly recommended as the only ones in my area who would be able to properly pull it off.
Chicago should have a huge number of body shops, but I would try and find a custom paint shop rather than an average body shop to do the work on your MSP. Try asking a few detail shops what their recommendations are, as well as asking people who are in car clubs, etc. Ask around as much as you can and take a look at the shop's work. I can't stress enough how important it will be that they know how to work with paint like our cars have. Good luck!

My MSP got keyed, both passenger side doors, body shop estimated $815 to repaint, and I had a $500 deductable. I just slapped some vinyl over the scratches instead. Would rather spend the money under the hood.

Good luck with getting that fixed. That ticks me off when haters scratch your car out of sheer malicious jealousy. My definitely sympathy.

MrDiggler is right. Our paint is a 3-step process. There's the base coat, the pearlescent and the clear. My body shop painted it four times without success, trying to match it. They ended up ordering a "paint-pack" from Mazda with all three paints. I must say though, they did it right! You'd never know it was ever scratched. Oh, and definitely stay away from the dealer!

weird... why does the mazdaspeed forum seem so exclusive.. i know i'm a n00b so I have no right to say this, but what does this have to do with mazdaspeed proteges? are the other proteges so crappy that they don't get keyed so this belongs in the mazdaspeed forum? don't mind me, i'm in a weird mood right now

EDIT: i guess the paint on any other protege isn't exclusive enough lol because it has one less coat, so when you key a MSP it's not the same at all... or something. oh well there'e a time in everyone's life where they get flamed, i guess this will be my time.
