some T3 install questions

so I have a speedcircuit turbo kit waiting to go on my spicy and have some questions in regards to install:

can I use the factory oil return for the new T3 or do I NEED to purchase a new pan?

I have a TIAL EWG that has the hookups for running coolant to keep temps down, can I use the MSP factory lines that currently are connected to turbo for coolant in/out?

will removing one of the fans in front of manifold to give more clearance for turbo/mani/EWG harm the engine in any way?

also is there anyone near KC,MO who has experience testing and tuning on the SSAFC. I am currently running the super map but am interested in a possible tune for new setup?

if anyone can provide any answers it would be greatly appreciated

the new set up may require new coolant/oil lines. since eevrything will no longer be in the stock position. i see in your mods list u have an upgraded rad. you can either run a honda civic half size radiator. OR you can run slim fans which would be the most ideal to use and switch out the stock fans.

I do have all new lines that were included in the kit, and I can T off of the oiling plate that came with my oil pressure gauge from prosport for oiling so that's no big deal. I am just unsure if the size line that already exists for oil return will be big enough to evacuate oil from the bigger turbo. as far as the fans/cooling I think I will attempt to run just a single fan since I do have the oversized rad and my car typically runs on the cool side. I am pretty confident in my ability to do all the bolts and nuts on the kit, but when it comes to the fluid line, I know if I screw those up you only get one shot. no oil or coolant=bad outcome!!! I am doing this swap not so much for more power but for reliability. I picked a very low PSI spring in the EWG at 4.3 and have no form of boost controller so I am hoping with more air from the bigger turbo and the SSAFC supermap it will like the setup. I also have a SLS catless midpipe to go on as well as my factory cat is shot and clogged all to hell.

i would contact speed circuit then. if u have any doubts or questions about their kit. it should have come with both a supply and return line for the oil. i dont seen why they would only send one. and not the other. unless the stock line is suffice enough.

old thread...

speaking from experience a long, long time ago, so take it for what its worth.
the gt25 that comes stock is oil restricted on the inlet, not the outlet. all outlets are gravity fed and are almost never restricted. i can't remember the size of the factory outlet but from what I recall when I did my t3/t04e it was fine. I believe the return bung re-use is dependent on where the turbo is located as others have said. finding the OEM recommended size is not hard. (will be in -AN for sure, I think generally about a 1/2" line for a T3)
you can tap by the oil pressure sensor. the factory line is tee'd and tapped from the back of the block at the sensor point.
one fan is for the AC, one is for radiator. again, this is what i remember from a very long time ago. you would be smart to get some slimline fans, or as long as you have the situation monitored then give it a shot. radiators were never definitively an issue with these cars but everyone had their two cents.
liquid cooled EWG? how big is this turbo?

SC is pretty good and pretty knowledgeable about this stuff. there's other members who could tell you no issue but most left a while ago for one reason or another.

and as I said I ran a t3/t04e at 7psi with no boost control and liked it much more than the factory unit which runs out of gas early. a tune would have made it a blast. the car will pull much more consistently with the bigger turbo. good luck.

oh, and if it's a new turbo, don't forget to prime the oil supply. pull the fuse for the fuel pump, shut the ignition off (or both) and crank it for a good 30 seconds before firing it up.

this install has been fun to say the least. I have most of the kit in the bay but am confused on were the factory oil feed line is coming from. is it connected to the oiling plate that the filter sits on, that's the only thing I can think of?! I am trying to not cut or splice any of the original kit so that if worst case scenario I need to put the stock kit back on or if I find someone wanting to buy it it will be complete. I have the coolant lines ran to the EWG so that's done but the turbo I am using is bigger than the one that would have come in the speedcircuit kit ( T3/T04e 50 trim A/R .63) will post pics soon, but with the larger inlet side of the turbo the hot pipe is rubbing the support brace for the front mount, would it be okay to notch it a little to provide more clearance? and again is there anyone close the either Kansas City, either Kansas or Missouri who has experience with this car. I am going to be looking for someone better than I am with the SSAFC. I have played with it a little but not enough to feel comfortable in custom tuning.

(edit: fixed incorrect oil cooler info) the line should just be tee'd off the back of the block by the OP sender. its what OEM used and is common for retrofits. people modify the radiator brackets all the time. its not hard. i would get a piece of sheetmetal and make a custom one rather than mess up the OEM one.

actually from what I have read on these cars they come with a factory oil cooler which is a sandwich plate between the block and the oil filter. my thoughts are with my oil feed dilemma is to cap the factory oil line and use my new larger capacity line as I have the prosport oiling plate for my oil pressure guage and can use one of the 4 AN ports for my new line. I think I will also use the factory oil pan and just use one of the weld-in bungs I have for the oil return. but I have come across another issue: my factory fans are to think to fit between the rad and EWG. any options out there our what have other people used with big turbo upgrade???I have about 2.5" clearance between the rad and EWG on the passenger side but only about 1.5" clearance between the rad and intake side of the turbo for driver side. I cant seem to find anything that thin so maybe some type of retrofit will work

thanks again for all who have pitched in with help and feedback on my install. I will post pics once my spicy is all done(for now)!!!

You'll most likely need to run the fans as pushers on the other side of the radiator... that's what I have. If you start having cooling issues... you'll need to look into a shroud similar to what mishimoto has on ebay.

iirc, you can also run a p5 core which is thinner but wider. need new fans and mounts though, and you can't use stock IC piping locations. have to run through the fenderwell.

you are correct about the oil cooler. my fading memory of these cars is showing. i thought the oil cooler was on the back of the block. oops.

well I am almost done with my install, I have everything done except for the oiling lines to and from and am waiting on my spal fans to show up, but here is my progress as of right now:

T3/T04e Garrett
Steedspeed mani
Tial MS-V 38mm EWG @ .5bar (7psi)
SpeedCircuit intercooler piping
Greddy Type-S BOV
ARP hardware
stainless steel hoses
SpeedCircuit waterneck
SpeedCircuit downpipe

tell me what you think, will post more pics once I am completely done, but damn I am close!!!

would there be any issues plugging the factory oil feed line and using my oiling plate to feed oil to my new turbo. I have an oil pressure guage in the pilar so I would still be able to monitor oil pressures without using the factory oil pressure sending unit. I already have a new larger diameter stainless line for feed and return but am unsure if I would have any issues not using the factory location or if the ecu would still be wanting to see data from the factory oil pressure sending unit that is attached to were the factory feed line is. this is really the last part of my big turbo install other than waiting for my lo-pro fan to come in. thanks
