- 1997 Protege 4 door. 1.8 liter 4 cylinder @122 HP
We sold our 97 Mazda Protege. Was able to get 2500 on a trade in for a 2001 Sunfire GTX and a 91 Buick LeSabre.
I really did not want it to go, but it was unsafe in wintry weather. Where I live, we get alot of snowfall, and it handled badly. I actually ditched it once, due to the oversteer and tight steering. I know we could've done suspension modifications, but it was not worth sinking money into. Parts were extremely expensive, even aftermarket parts. Besides that, it was waay underpowered for a supposedly 92 HP 1.5 liter engine. It really needed to be revved to gain all 92 horses. I have another GM with a 2.5 liter 90 hp pontiac engine, had tons of torque and enough power to spin the tires. Got the same mileage as the Protege. Besides, the Protege was starting to rust, and my dad and I could see it being a maintenance nightmare with the rust and other problems as parts are very expensive.
Well, I'm sorry to be breaking the news to you all, and I hope my leaving does not inflict any hard feelings for anyone. I did find the info here helpful, and you guys/gals were very nice. I have to say this is a good forum, and you people are wonderfull, so good luck with your rides.
