So what is it?

I ran out of washer fluid today so when I got home I parked, cut the engine, and popped the hood to add some fluid. While adding the fluid I heard something still moving in the engine bay. Sounded electronic, beeping or whirring or something. It stopped after a few seconds.

So what is it?

No. It didn't seem like it would be a fan. It sounded more electronic than that. I thought it might have had something to do with the locking system.

I have wondered about that same sound, and I concluded that when I shut down the car at night it's the HID ballast boxes that makes that sound....basically like something is shutting off even after your car turns off right....? is that the sound?

Yes, but mines a Sport so no HID for me.

It does sound a bit like something turning off after everything's already turned off.

ive wondered that myself, but have never looked into it. and it's also a sound that i can't get anywhere near to check and see if i can pinpoint it

its obviously a normal component of the car if everyone's is doing it (which im sure they are). almost like some component is reseting near the front of the engine. something with variable swirl valve or maybe the throttle body. really no clue. and im not even sure how to look that up in the repair manual. the only way i can think of looking it up is trying to figure out what electronic components specifically run for a few seconds only after engine shut down

That's the sound of the system that cools the turbo. A few whirs and a click or two. It seems to run a bit longer when I've been flogging mine. Not sure it runs every time it's shut off.

Okay well since thats NOT the sound we are referring to with HID's then the other one that I concluded on is the Fuel Injector pump purging after shut off...the winne then buzz and off sound.

In the manual it states it does an evap vacuum check (I believe it is) after shut off. It mentions that it will be audible and is normal.

it is a controller that stays on for a few seconds after the motor is shut off......cant remember what it is right now though

I was under the hood right after i turned the motor off the other day and the sound seems to eminate from the throttle body area, more specifically a thing with a black plastic cap that is facing the front of the car.
