Mazdaspeed 3
Went out to move my car a little bit ago and found this on my driveway, i poked around and found oil all over the shock. Im assuming it blown? Hopefully its covered under my extended warranty i bought when i got it used.

It just pisses me off how im reading around and the 3's factory ones only last 20-30k miles when the factory shocks on my mazdaspeed protege lasted me 163k (until i hit a deer). Is it so hard to buy a car with quality parts nowadays?

btw, please excuse the crappy cell phone pics, my ex wife managed to end up with my $800 camera...

It might be unwise to make a claim on your policy to get another set of stock struts

a set of FSD's are not that expensive

That's what happens when Mazda puts stiffer spring rates on the MS3, but uses MZ3 shocks. As for the MSP, they at least had revalved Tokico HP's for the Racing Beat springs.

Its like they reversed things with the 3: they spent money on the engine but skimped on the suspension, but on the protege they skimped on the motor and spent on the suspension. If only my protege had the ms3 motor in it...

The car is built to a price in certain areas, yes, nothing's for free. The design of the suspension in the 3 is good, it's just the budget shocks that let it down. I'll gladly take throwing a set of shocks and struts at a car over completely redoing the engine, especially on a modern, emissions-compliant vehicle.

hey darth, did you have to do anything special for the rears? the site is out of front and i need something now so im just gonna get both rears for the time being. the shock is completely gone and the car is bouncy as hell.

Nope, they go straight in and it's a touch like a RSB install as it stiffens the roll axis in the back quite alot with the 5 shocks. You'll have them installed in about 20 minutes at the back; it's really easy.

All 4 done and it corners very flat and allows a progressive building of grip which is what I want. The bouncing and pitching of the stock stuff made smooth cornering near impossible.

I have the same problem right now. Mine at least made it 76k though. It's not all bad though, now I can justify buying a new suspension setup to my fiancee :D
