Heres the deal, I got a friend, his name is Rubio, I've been friends with him for the past 5 years or so and hes a great guy. Funny, laid back dude. He's my age, graduated this past year and has a good head on his shoulders. He knows what he wants to do and plans on going into the Marines next year.

He has always been that guy who had decent taste in cars but never really got into them to truly know whats up with them. Doesn't know the basics of a car like whats best for power, whats best for handling, what this is or what that is. That type of guy. Well currently he knows how to drive but doesn't have a license, he drives w/o one for some reason and I don't think he's ever driven a stick.

Alright, now to the story, I got a txt from Rubio last week out of now where asking me about a "1995 Nissan Skyline GTST Twin Turbo" He asked me if it was a good deal at 30k

Remember, this guy ain't really a car guy, I mean he likes them n all, but doesn't know hardly anything about them so I was surprised.

I'm not an expert on skylines so I didn't even know what the 95 look like so I went to ebay, one showed up, going for 28k buy it now. I wrote rubio back and asked if it was the one on ebay, he replied and said yes.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1995...cks?hash=item3ef7d8df42&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245

I didn't even know where to start. I wrote him and said

"Where you gonna get 30k? Your enlisting bonus from the Marines? You're gonna spend all that money on your first car? What do you need with a built drifter? Have you ever even been a car that drifted? Where would you drift anyways? Do you know what a turbo is? Do you know how to take care of one? Do you know CA laws are a lot more strict than TX laws? Do you know how to drive stick? Do you know how crazy insurance is gonna be? If it breaks, do you know how to fix it? How much it'll cost? What actually broke? Do you know how much cops will stick to you? Honestly, this car is way too far out of your experience level, don't get it, you'll destroy the car and possibly kill yourself."

I told him to start somewhere more reasonable, like a msp, srt, w/e, just something normal, not a Japanese drifter import car. Geez. He then asked me about a RX-7, Supra & other expensive, quick cars, far out of his league. He is very clueless on HP, he wants 500+ hp but he's never rode in a fast car so he doesn't really understand that's VERY unnecessary for the street, I know he won't track it and probably try and race everything on the streets. I thought I talked him out of it but he keeps posting and talking about "Skyline here I come" and s*** like that.

Basically, what do I do? I don't want him to waste the money, destroy a beautiful car and possibly kill himself or someone else.

id say just tell it like it is. sometimes tough love is whats really needed to get the point across. he might get mad for a while, but thats better then him getting hurt or losing a ton of money for something he dosent need

i gotta agree w/ mikelikesmazdas! tough love. it shows in your post that you genuinely care for the guy and when you have that kind of friendship, tough love is acceptable.

tell him a 240sx w/ a good engine swap will cost considerbly less and will be a good starting point to stepping into a skyline.

or.

let him make his own desicion since the world is supposed to end in three more years anyway. ya know, the Mayans and shiz! December 2012! the guy that did the mummy movies is making a documentary about it!?

or.

since some theoretical physicists postulate that there are parralell universes, what ever desicion we make here in this universe translates to a different one in another. so, whether he buys one here or not he will still get one. theoretically speaking.

seriously. if he's joining the Marines, i would think the best option would be to not purchase anything till he gets to a base and NEEDS transportation.

sorry for the mispelling and/or lack of validity in some statements.

I say he needs to just put away the money into cds or something and maybe spend a grand or two on stupid stuff if its burning a hole in his pocket.

Hell never be able to register that here.

Tell your friend straight up hes an idiot, who knows absolutely nothing, (nonetheless should be driving) Has never driven stick, but thinks he can handle a high HP RWD car?

I guarantee he gets anything with more than 200hp as his first car hell be dead in a year. He probably one of those "im invincible" types huh.

Regardless, hell never be able to register that here, nor afford the insurance on that (as a driver under 25 w/ 0 experience behind the wheel)

greg, sell him ur car for 30k. Tell him it will smoke any skyline on the road. It is a complete monster. Then take the 30k and go buy used corvette and smoke him. Then tell him his an idiot and go to Mcdonalds and buy a happy meal, with a large fries and drink. Cant go wrong there.

If he really wants a Skyline, tell him to get orders to Okinawa out of MOS school. He can have a GTR for 10-15K and be happy....

thats not a very pretty R33

tell your friend to wake up....he wants to spend $30k (which sounds like he doesnt have) on a car thats almost 15 years old thats probably horrible for the street.

find a regional guy with a ms3 or ms6, have them take him for a ride, he obviously has no perception of power. maybe he'll realize that 300 is more than enough. and yea dumping 30k on a car thats just going to rot while hes on tour is stupid.

Alright! I'll go with this!! lol.

He's not going to have the money for awhile so hopefully I'll have the turbo hooked up and running good on my car and I'll take him for a spin. I know he'll probably be content with that and I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna break 200, if he wants something faster, I'll take him to a local meet and have one of the ms3 guys make him s*** his pants. (evil)

yea tell him to give up on skylines, there really expensive to maintain, really expensive to buy, and almost impossible to insure/ register/pass emissions
ESPECIALLY that one since it does not look like they took emissions into mind when they built it

Tell him to get a 01' or 02' Z06. Less dinero than the Skyline, and perfectly streetable. It'll be more than he can handle too.

Plus then you just start with a badass car. A shot of nitrous is cheap, and fast.

Stock performance
Corvette>Skyline
Price to increase performance
Corvette>Skyline
Fun to dollar factor
Corvette>Skyline
Rarity
Skyline>Corvette

If I were going to get rid of the MSP, or the Speed6, that is what I'd buy. I mean they're under $20k right now!

+1 And the drivetrain is pretty much bulletproof.

That said, if he's never driven a powerful car, tell him to get some experience and knowledge first before he dumps a ton of money on a car he won't know how to handle properly (especially if it's a tail happy drifter). Tell it straight, there's no need for saying it tactfully, you don't want him getting hurt or killed! He probably won't like it (remember that questioning's a man's skill at the wheel will be taken as a big of insult as if a woman where saying that he's s~#t in the bedroom) but yeah, he needs to hear it.

1993 RX-7, Twin-Turbo 5speed Manual, 79000 Miles and the asking price is at $3500!! He is gonna attempt to talk him down a little more but I told him thats a ******* steal.

I gave him a VERY strong warning, he will either learn to take care of the car asap or he'll end up destroying it. He took me seriously and I will be holding his hand through this whole process until he knows how to take care of this beauty himself.
