So, a drunk driver crashed into my parked car last night...

its just an A-arm, they bend pretty easy, they are only made out of stamped steel, not very strong if ya ask me, the subframe wont bend for s*** though, and thats good, it will drive like new

True enough. My other concern with the repair is the quarter panel. The plan is to cut and section a new one in.....I know it'll look just fine...but will it really (drive)?

At least I'll have the whip back so I don't have to be worried about picking up a new ride with in like 48 hours.....

Good word from the body shop (just got back) I took a look at the front end and neither the a-pillar nor the firewall/'torque box" were damaged at all (humpleg)

The quarter panel: they're going to attempt to pull it out and repair it that way (via very, very light body filler. Else, if the metal is too thin, they're going to cut out and weld in a new panel. I'd prefer the latter version given the option, but they can't replicate the factory weld seam quality 100% (he said they'd get them 99% dead on and you'd be very hard pressed to notice the difference).

In all, I feel a lot better. We were walking around their lot and there was an AMG CLS 55 (among other high dollar whips) that had like $30k in damage (all it was was a wheel, one fender, and a bumper to replace...-apparently to AMG certifications after the repair - on a $80k plus car...), plus along with some killer custom work there too..I was duly impressed (I think he walked me through the shop on purpose to ease my mind)..so I feel a hell of a lot better. This plus their lifetime guarantee on the work.

Now this is just the body; they're taking it to their suspension shop.

I'm feeling better about it all - I think selling it (vs the prospect of it being totalled) won't be a good option as I'll take a larger hit than I can afford at this point.

my quarter panel had to be cut and a new piece added on, i can't tell the diffrence in looks or handeling....... here is what my front end looked like.......

(boom02)...um...yah...I feel a little better now...

So $11k and no total? What were valued at?

well it would have been totaled but they already started working on it off the initial estimate when they found the rest. so it was cheaper just to finish working on it.......

yeah that's what happened with nicole's car.

Just a quick update:

Traffic Court at Daley Center tomorrow, 8 AM to deal with the tickets. Hopefully the tool can sober up to actually show his face (seeing that I never did see him).

Body shop: I get Mindy back next Saturday. We'll see....

Picked up the folks an '05 Corolla to replace the Altima last Saturday. I was surpised how freaking nice they are (I dig the "fluorescent" gauge display)...I wish...um...they knew how to drive manual - there was a nice XRS sitting on the lot....and no, I wouldn't ask to borrow it everyday to get gas.....

Sorry, D. Random college ass. (shrug)

The Corolla is a nice, luxury style ride. Good for getting from point A to point b in a straight line without mechanical malfunctions.

How'd it work out for you at the Daley Center? Everything go smoothly?

It should be to no ones surprise that the court system (esp. for traffic related, property damage) in the States is skewed towards out of court settlements vs. implicating a long winded trial (by jury or otherwise).

So for reference, by drunk I refer to the Escalade driving asshole:

I show up on Monday morning to the CL area of Daley Plaza this is where Id say 95% of traffic violations are dealt with. Most often the ticketing officer doesnt show, so the violation is thrown out. In my case, the officer was not there either, but because I showed as the complaining witness, the drunks violations were not thrown out. However, because his tickets violated State law (hit and run, reckless) and not just City, we had to take the case to the 4th floor for the DA to deal with. Not only that, but he doesnt understand English that well (Hispanic).

Now mind you, I hadnt seen drunk before at least in daylight. He even sat next to me and I didnt acknowledge his presence. I hurts me so to know that his feelings may have been affected.

On the 4th floor, we enter a court room; we check in with the clerk and I give my copies of the police report to the DA. The DA then advises me that because a) No one was injured/killed and b) Again, the system prefers out of court or quick settlements, they would approach him with a request that he plead guilty to the hit and run and a $100 fine, plus a 6 month probation (if he gets a ticket in the next 6 months, hell get taken in), if he also agrees to drop the reckless. Again, they couldnt get him on the DUI because he wasnt caught behind the wheel.

Super.

He agrees to it via a translator, and after about an hour in that room, the case is settled and all is done. He gets the requisite slap on the wrist for being a choad

Now, it sucks on one hand because:
1) I was hoping drunk would be thrown away to the pen for at least year
2) I was hoping drunk would have to pay more than just a $100 fine
3) I was hoping drunk would have to lose his license for at least a year

However, much of the above would have required that I hire a lawyer, have a discovery process put in place involving indictments and testimonial evidence, and have gotten drawn out (and expensive).

Now, its OK on the other hand because:
1) I really dont care about drunk any longer and I hope his next accident involves himself and associated vehicle (again, only by himself) burning into an incomprehensible crisp while enduring excrutiating, writhing pain. Best of luck to him.
2) I have bigger fish to fry. I need to carry on with life.
3) No one was needlessly injured or killed. Unfortunately, drunk was also not needlessly injured, maimed, paralyzed, castrated, or otherwise decapitated. Shame on him.
4) I have a larger reason to drive by his brothers house and extend my middle finger each day to pay homage to the events of July 18th,2005 may those memories live on forever, and ever, amen.

But seriously, I just need to carry on and be done with it. Karmas a b**** and itll all pay out in time.

it is safe to say that justice was not served in this case :(

no but that was a great post. Glad you are just moving on though. It is easy to get hung up on stupid things like this.
