Snow performance

nah, you won't slide on a dry road, unless you're going WAY too fast for the corner. wet/ice/snow and you'll slide

The MS6 most certainly will slide, does nicely in throttle-induced oversteer. My favorite is a slight drift around the offramps, but ya, that's the best fun of this drivetrain. Dry road is the same as wet/snow, just takes a little more persuasion and gonads. People complaining about understeer simply don't know how to properly drive the MS6.

my point was that its not going to slide involuntarily. you have to WANT it to slide.

See, my problem is I don't know if I want to spend the money and get dedicated winter tires or just pick up a set of all-seasons. The MI winters are so hit or miss anymore, my Blizzaks on my Protege barely got any work. What's it usually cost to swap tires from winter to summer on a set of wheels.

As for the OP, the factory tires are horrible for snow/ice. The car performs well, but the tires do not.

From a performance racing standpoint, this AWD system can't match Subaru, but coming from an STI to the Speed 6, with the same all season tires, I gotta give the edge in snow to the Speed 6, so referring to the initial question, when it comes to bad weather, this car is fantastic. IMO, I think the AWD system in this car is better for winter.

I have Pirelli M+S high performance all seasons, and they do the job well, even in heavy snow. With the stability and traction control, this car is super in bad weather, and I'm sure the heavier weight also helps. Best year round car I've ever owned, and I feel so safe in any bad weather, as being FWD based, and feeling the rears kick in when needed, is fantastic.

I cannot praise this car enough as a winter vehicle. LOVE IT!!!

I concur...

I go to school in Denver and the winters arent exactly ALL snow ALL the time...but I do take I-70 to ski every weekend...

On a side note...I had a wrangler with all seasons and it did fine (for the most part)...

And for anyone who cares, I dont think I'll get those wheels/tires from my earlier post, havent gotten a call back from the cheezeball on when we could meet.(pissed)

I suggest you take the opportunity to drive on a snowy course with snow tires and then with all-season tires. The difference is like night and day. It's not as big a difference as HPS tires to all-seasons, but it's a big difference.

It's a no-brainer to me. Well worth the cost. The improved safety is where it's at! Plus, you get to use higher performance summer tires too (on/off in a pinch).

I had a great set of Blizzaks on my Protege, and that was night and day compared to stockers. I'm just not in a position right now to run two sets of tires yet. If I get another set of wheels or just pick up two sets of tires, then I'd be alright.

If I was in your position and only had money for one set of tires, I would rather buy snow tires and compromise my summer fun than buy all season tires and compromise my winter safety, but that's just me.

By the way, anyone knows if MAzda6 17" OEM mags will fit on my speed6? The offset is +60mm.

yes they will.

and honestly, its not good to run winters in the summer. running them on dry payment will cause them to wear faster, and since they are designed to be run in the cold, running them in the warm weather is typically bad too.
