Snow is coming--1st for me in this car.

In my Protege 5 that is. Anyways, I have 18,000 miles on the stock Dunlops and they look good still. How are these cars in the snow? I don't have the extra cash to buy snow tires and what not. So I'm going to chance it, but how was the ride for people that drove them thru the winter snow?

this is my second winter on the stock dunlops. i have about 30,000 kms (~18.8 miles) on them and they're still perfectly good. the stock tires only get a little scary when the snow is really deep. but, i think you'll be completely fine in indianapolis. i've already driven through a snow storm and on shear ice roads this winter and i have been completely in control.

i already got snow too...not much yet...but a few inches...it was alot better than any other car ive had...and on water it drives great, so im thinking they will be fine...i hope so, i get about 3 feet of snow here sometimes...

Yeah, I drove on the SP5000's through the snow last year... They weren't very good, but I could do it. Probably because I've lived up in Maine for a while (AKA, Southern Canada. =) ), and that makes you appreciate learning to drive well, what with all the dirt roads, snow, and ice. =) But in Indiana, I imagine it won't be as bad as it would be in NH or any of the northeast, really. Just take it smooth and slow. =)

yeah...i can't believe it when i go other places where they don't get much snow and everyone is soo scared...you just gotta be careful...i mean, some places no one will even leave their house if their is a dusting on the road...here...we drive no matter what...in buffalo, which is about a half hour away...they get killed every year...last year they had like 3 or 4 feet...and in the city their were drifts over my head...

Doesn't matter how good of a driver you are, you can't overcome physics. There are hills around here that were just not possible to get up in the snow with the stock Dunlops. Put on snow tires and up I went. I can't imagine driving around in the winter on those Dunlops.

We had a hell of a snow here last year and I bought snow tires for my Spec-V, but didn't end up using them much because I bought a 3rd car.

I think I'll be ok with the stock Dunlops hopefully this winter.

ive never had any problem around here with any amount of snow...and i have never gotten a set of snow tires...and there are hills...not mts...but some pretty good hills...you just don't go fast...

When I lived in texas i got a kick how everyone acted when it lightly snowed. The black ice though was pure evil.

this will be the third winter on the stockies. i've not had any problems in the snow...ice well that's a different story!

Haven't had any problem in the rain. We just had a really bad rain storm with strong 50 to 60 mile gusts. Car just cruised down the road.

Maybe it depends on the year of the car or the driver.....hmm probably not the driver... couldn't be the driver...no. lol

no...its definatly not the driver :) seriously though, i dunno, i havn't had any problems yet but i havn't driven it in "total" winter yet...just a few dustings of snow and ice...

well, last winter, my wife was driving the p5, while i had her "crap"alier Z24. she said it sucked in the snow, so i'm not too worried about it! lol maybe i should be after having that unresponsive p.o.s. last year........bottom line, take it easy in the snow and be leery of the other idiots (read: suv's) that think they can "go antwhere". (cheers)

there are alot of good winter drivers around here but at the same time there are people who think they can go anywhere...not usually suv drivers around here...most suv drivers are soccor mom types...the go anywhere drivers are hicks with big trucks...not that big trucks can't be cool...but not the one with the hillbillies drivin :) they think they can go anywhere, the try going everywhere and they end up goin in a ditch flippin over a dying...at least its usually one car accidents...

the last big snowstorm (36") we had here in the philly area, i actually saw more stuck suv's and pickups than cars! it really is more about the ability of the driver some times.......
